Don't have a small scale, but it felt slightly heavier than a 2 lb. weight. I would guess around 2.5 lbs.

Can this be a deep fryer?

This is a pan, not a "deep fryer." Carote makes a well priced 4 qt or 6 qt pot that can work for deep frying. Amazon has both, well priced in my opinion.
