These are, without a doubt, the best portable window AC units I’ve used. They’re quiet, energy-efficient, and have no trouble cooling even the hottest rooms. I purchased two units for my upstairs, and while one of them developed an issue, the experience with customer service was outstanding. Product was easy to set-up and works great. The unit is heavy so you might need some help moving around but it is on wheels which helps a lot. I was surprised by how quiet it runs. Thanks!

I just installed this and my only complaint there is the poor instructions and design of the exhaust plate. Once in, the product performed very well. I have a very large master suite and by itself it cooled the room quickly and ran perfectly all night. This is on the pricey end of things but so far it performs very well.

This is our 3rd year with these (we have 2) and the units work really well. The only reason for the 3 stars instead of 4 or 4.5 is that mounting to a small sliding side to side opening window is dodgy at best. The clips on the hose adapters break easily. I have to use gaff tape to make up for the broken clips. I won't even mention the trying to size and install the window insert. It's just plain difficult to install. I found that, in my scenario, the unit has to go directly under the window. Once you try going to the side even a little, it creates a lot of strain on the mount. I actually ordered a custom window insert for 1 and that works a little better but it doesn't solve the adapter issues. I think if we had to do it again, we would stick with a true dual hose and not the hose in hose like this.

I have had several portable AC units over the years, and this is clearly the best for efficiency and noise. First, double-hose units are far superior to single-hose ones, irrespective of the brand. Single-hose units exhaust air outside, which means that, somewhere in the home, hot outside air is pulled in to replace it. Then, a first big advantage of this model over other brands/models is that it is much less noisy. It is true at full power, but even more when full power is not needed because it reduces the speed of its compressor and fan. Finally, it is an efficient unit, which means you get more cooling power for the same electrical consumption. Its BTU SACC value is high for its electrical power, and it has the highest BTU SACC value (10,000) among all 12,000 BTU units on the market (BTU SACC is a better measure of cooling power than BTU). Two features probably explain the greater efficiency: first, the variable speed compressor and fan mentioned above, and second the hose-in-hose design for the air intake/exhaust. In a regular unit, the exhaust hose is hot and radiates heat in the room like a radiator. Here, the hot air exhaust hose is enclosed within the cooler air in-take one to avoid this radiator effect (Of course, it probably means the entering air is warmed up a little by the hot exhaust and that this results in a small decrease in efficiency but overall it is probably a gain of effenciency.

Does not fit every window. Hose comes with a PVC panel. If you need to make it smaller, you have to use a circular saw to cut the PVC material to size. The use of power tools is not something I would consider "tool less" installation. Additionally, if you make a mistake, you have now voided your warranty and no longer have a machine that will fit your window. I recommend the 'U-Shaped Smart Inverter Window Air Conditioner' instead. The Whynter ARC-1030WN requires a window. So, if you have a window, use the U-Shape AC. It is smaller. Half is inside and half is outside to safe space and increase energy efficiency. AND it is cheaper. AND it's quieter. So much better than this item.
