It's loud. You've figured that out by now from reading other reviews. I want to tell you I also love how cool it looks. It has an "old world" look to it that makes it look like it would have been perfectly in place on the bridge of the Titanic - brand new and shining, not old and burnished. It is larger than most bells and with the shiny brass bell it stands out as not only practical but stylish as well. It strikes me visually as vintage with a slightly steam punk feel. I debated on whether or not to buy it considering there are a lot of other bells that are much cheaper but now that I've had it for a few months I'm so glad I did. Sometimes I ring the bell just because of how pleasing I find the sound and resonance.

There are a lot of bells for less money. Most of them will work. But this one is worth paying a bit more for. It has no plastic bits. It's a timeless design. It's loud, clear, and has a long sustain. This bell won't give a clink, or donk. It's a bell that cuts through the air and grabs attention. Additionally, the clamp doesn't require you to remove your grips to slide it on. As long as you have an open stretch of tube on your handlebars, you should be able to get it on. You might want to put a bit of rubber something similar between the clamp and your chrome or paint to keep it from scratching the finish if you move it around--not that that's likely to come up until you get a new bike to transfer it to.

I love the look, the sound and everything about it. However, it wasn't that way right from the beginning! When I first saw it, I was delighted. When I tried to use it, the clapper didn't even reach the bell, ...hence, .... no noise coming from the bell. You have to adjust it yourself so that it hits the bell..... at just the right distance. ... Installing it on the bike was no big deal, but since I don't like metal to touch metal, I added a strip of velcro to my handlebar, and then installed the bell on top of it. .. Now that everything is installed and working, I absolutely LOVE it.

I love this bell. It is loud and really resonates for a long time. I found it helps grab the attention of people who wear ear buds on the park path. However, after startling a few people, I give more distance between myself and pedestrians when I ring this bell. People are not used to hearing this authoritative ring tone. This is just a high quality brass bell and I highly recommend it over the cheap "ding - ding" bells out there. Love it and it looks great.

I like the deeper tone provided by the bigger bell, but it's much harder than many others to trigger a ring. It's not that "my poor fingers" can't handle it, but there's kinda no such thing as a more quiet, polite ding with this like there are with other designs, including those from Crane (E-Ne, etc.). It seems impossible to understand why their E-Ne bell is twice the price, but I appreciate its wider range of volume. Loud projection is nice, and this one has it -- but it's unable to offer a volume that's friendly at closer distances.

This little bell is very simple. It is made out of only a few pieces of metal, and is very attractive. None of that really matters, though. What matters is you can hear this thing from space. If you press the hammer down and let this thing go, it makes a pulse of sound that goes about as far as the eye can see. When biking, ringing a bell when approaching an intersection or a blind corner on a trail is the only way you can safely draw attention to yourself. This sound will pierce the veil of a rolled up window and a cabin full of music, or easily bring eyes up and pedestrians to the side of a wooded trail. Simply made and sturdy as the day is long, well worth it in a world of cutesy tools that have forgotten their real purpose.

I liked the first one so much, I bought another for my other bike. The bell tone is pleasant but fairly loud. It "carries" for a while after you ring it. I like it better than the smaller bells I tried for warning walkers or for announcing yourself as you head into a blind-ish curve on a path. Yes, the newer Garmin bike computers have a "bell," but the Crane bell is much better. :)
