It's okay...
I bought this book for my child who loves the movie as a way to get them interested in reading chapter books without illustrations. They've read it through multiple times so for that I'll give it 3 stars. It's written in a fun way, the author tried to add in some funny comments and it follows the story and dialogue fairly closely (with some major exceptions). Unfortunately as we've read through it together, I've noticed there are quite a few typos and grammar errors. (For example: last I checked "reigns" are for kings and queens and "reins" are for horses...) My kids are too young to notice a lot of the errors but even they've noticed that some of the sentences don't quite make sense the way they're written. As I said, the story mostly follows the movie but there are some big differences. Most of the big changes seem to be trying to make Jack Horner into a little less of a bad guy. But really, most people who buy this book are doing so because they've seen and liked the movie. Is it really that much worse to read about the things Jack does than to see them in the movie? Seems a bit silly. My child definitely noticed the changes and kept telling me "that's not how it happens in the movie." Like I said, overall it's okay. I do think for the price of the book they should've done more proof reading.
