This is an amazing tool and easy to use.
This is an amazing tool and easy to use. It is not automatic and you have to load each negative strip into the holder and then slide it into the machine. scanning negatives is tricky because you can scan them backwards and never know it unless you recognize the background and can tell that it's backwards. It's also easy to adjust the colors, but I accidentally adjusted one and forgot to change it back and ended up with several photos having a red hue to them. That was my fault but just beware. The setting are pretty easy to figure out and Overall, I think I got my money's worth. It took me 10 hours, but I scanned all of my negatives that I've been packing around and collected for 60 years. Now I can throw them all away.

Good enough for home memories.
It cuts off left or right. So you have to slightly push or pull the slide tray a bit and hold it as you choose who or what you want to cut off in the picture. Gently insert each slide. If you try to go fast to do a bunch, it will shift the slide inside the tray a bit. I got pretty good at learning how to use it that I only used the single slide holder. This was easy to make minor adjustments of the slide in the tray as needed one at a time. I wouldn't want to do that with a multiple slide holder as i would have to remove the tray anyways to fix each one if they were slightly off. It seems cutting off a portion of the slide is typical with these different brands of home use scanners. I just adjust it so I cut off a tree or something insignificant. It has brightness levels that helped when I needed a little extra light on dark photos, but the default settings did pretty good I think. It gets power from the USB of the computer. It will alert when it is full of built in memory. Then you can switch the scanner to transfer mode and it will show up like a USB stick dive in the computer to copy the files. It makes JPG files. 6000 x 4000 pixels. 72 dpi. 24 bit. sRGB

Love it!
Bought this to scan about 1000 33mm slides for our daughter. Ya, it took me a while to do. Worked flawlessly. Highly recommend.

Great Unit for Transferring Negatives
My wife purchased this to transfer 35mm negatives to digital. Easy to set up and use. We got the extra negative carriers (3-pack) which I recommend. Loading and scanning negatives is a breeze. She finished scanning several hundred in a matter of days. Color correction wasn't critical for us, so the standard setting was fine. We bought a 128 GB SD card, which is overkill, but you can never have enough storage space. We transfer the files to PC using the SD card versus the USB connection. Haven't tried slides, but figure they'll also be fine. Good value. No brainer versus paying for the service. Would recommend.

Good product. Much better than the similar Kodak scanner
I bought the Magnasoinc FS71 after trying the Kodak Slide N Scan with a 7" screen. I had been quite disappointed with the quality of the Kodak scanner, because the details were very muddy with too much smoothing. The Magnasonic FS71 was MUCH better. All the details from the negative, even the film grain (to some extent), were revealed in the Magnasonic captures. A little bit of research revealed that the Magnasonic FS71 has a larger sensor (16MP, 1/2.3"), compared to the Kodak sensor (13MP, 1/3.06"). That explains some of the improvement in scan quality. But it doesn't actually explain why the Kodak scans were so muddy and out-of-focus. I think the only area where the Kodak scanner was better was on colors. To my eye, the colors produced by the Kodak scanner were more attractive. The colors from the Magnasonic scanner looked more like old snapshots (which I guess might be more accurate). In the attached samples, the darker image came from the Kodak Slide N Scan, and the lighter image came from the Magnasonic FS71. The last image is zoomed in to show the details captured by each scanner.

Good imaging
I have 4 banker's boxes of old 35mm negatives so I needed a workhorse and this is it. Solidly constructed and handy adjustment controls. The additional long negative sleeves are the way to go, when I used the short one from the box it was hard to advance frames, maybe part of that was the natural curl of the negatives I was working with. For some reason it dates every JPG file it creates as March 1st, you have to edit this post-upload if you want to change it. There's no way to set date & time. You will need an SD card if you want to scan more than 30 pictures at a time; internal storage is limited. But I still recommend it, it's fine for basic scanning.

Transfering old slides to computer
Didn't purchase a memory card so like every 20 pictures transferred from machine to computer. Machine isn't hard to learn once you get going it's kind of fun. Was transferring my mother-in -laws old photos. So it was kind of fun not knowing what would appear. Cleaning lens was ok.Machine is quiet. Can't really ask for more.Gets the job done.

Fantastic!
Wonderful scan quality, it hardly any time to scan old and newer negatives. Had some of the pictures printed before so the color match was very accurate. Highly recommend!

I have used this scanner to scan 965 Pictures. With a minor adjustment to the carrier I was able to slide the negatives through the machine without changing carrier insert which increased the speed of reader dramatically. Does a really nice job.

Good value and performs well, easy to operate, fast scan times The lack of raw format output means some visible loss of quality but it is fine for digitizing old family negatives or slides (as advertised) for the average person the extra negative trays (purchased separately) ae useful but one is forced to by them in a pack of three of the same kind, rather than mixed, such as one for slides and another one for negatives, or individually as per need. The extra trays are only needed if you want to scan several negatives or slides at a time, otherwise the supplied trays are sufficient.

I was looking for something that I could use to scan all my old negatives. This works great and the resolution of the scans are high enough to enlarge small areas when I go to crop a specific area out.
