Zeofiber D.E. Alternative - 3 lbs

I had high hopes of this product and tried it three separate times over the course of two pool seasons but it simply doesn't work in my pool set up for whatever reason.I've tried it while the pool was cloudy and after days of running, there was no difference in the water's appearance. I switched back to DE and the pool was noticeably clearer after a day (but took a few to be completely clear). At another attempt I added the zeofiber after a backwash and the next day went to vacuum the pool. To my surprise there was brown, dirty water shooting back into the pool via the return jets!When I clean out the filter, the zeofiber appears to be in clumps. I've tried directly adding the stuff to the skimmers as the instructions say, and also tried to mix it in a bucket of water like you do with real DE, but that doesn't seem to make a difference in clumping.I have a 48 sq ft Hayward grid filter if that matters, maybe other DE filters work better. Based on the reviews I had higher hopes but I've gone through three bags at different times (I used the appropriate amount each time but with backwashing and retrying used up the bags) across two seasons and always ran into problems. Those problems went away each time after switching back to DE. Even adding a small amount of DE with a majority of zeofiber appears to work, so I think for whatever reason this stuff isn't completely coating my filter grids.

Been using DE for 4 years. It was so messy and when I cleaned my filter that DE took years to disappear. I live in the north east so my pool season is 4-5 months. Switched over to this 3 years ago and will never ever ever go back. For me I can’t tell the difference which is a plus. When I clean the filter it’s bio degradable no messy leftover. 3 years so far so good

I doubled the recommended size in my newly-washed and reassembled DE filter system and the water went from greenish-yellow to crystal white within 48 hours.Took off one star because dispensing from a plastic bag was a pain, with the powder constantly blowing off in the wind and getting all over the place. They should use a rectangular box container with a built-in spout to pour out the powder much more effectively (but hey, the mfr / distributors make money by consumers wasting some of the product during use, so I guess there isn't much incentive in providing efficient packaging).

I think this stuff is great. Whether it filters out finer particles than DE i don't know. But is is much easier to carry around and store than the large boxes of DE. I also think this is a good alternative to people who have leaks in their DE filter grids like i do because it leaks out much less than the DE when you recharge the filter. So cleanup after a recharge is much quicker and more manageable with this. But the fiber itself works just as good as the DE making it a great alternative

Make sure you dilute the product slowly and stir in a bucket of water before slowly putting into skimmer so that it doesn't glob together in the skimmer and/or filter. If it globs together you will have to take your filter apart and clear it off the internal elements so filter will continue to work properly. Will make pressure go up a bit.

Helps clean the fish tanks without the toxic nature of D.E. Very fine fibers that will "get loose" if you press on the bag too much or cause any amount of air to be blown into it (gladly non-toxic). Wish the container came with some better way to manage content if you aren't using it all at once, but as far as its' effectiveness goes, top notch.

I gave this stuff more than a fair shot, trying it for almost a year. I really wanted it to work. 4 bags & 12 filter changes later, I've given up. It starts out cleaning well for the 1st day or so, then slowing starts to pass through the filter elements and into the pool. The initial cloudy appearance of the pool is from the cellulose itself, then it quickly gets worse as the water quality declines. Have inspected my filter elements many times and there are no leaks or tears. It just goes right through the fabric. Maybe my aftermarket filter panels are not as fine as OEM? If it works for others as well as the reviews say then maybe it will work for you. For me, I've switched back to DE and everything is good again.

This is so much better than DE! So much lighter in weight, environmentally safe, and doesn't turn into concrete in the filter cartridge like DE does. Rinses out easily with normal hose nozzle spray pressure and leaves the cartridge clean as new, plus the pool just sparkles!
