Tom Hanks and Geena Davis star in this big-league comedy based on the real-life exploits of the All-American Girls Baseball League. Review: Much praise for Penny Marshall - I waited many years to come around to finally watching this film. I'm glad that I did. Most of what this film entails besides being an absolutely entertaining feel good movie is a fictionalized account of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. I discovered the league through research and a love of baseball. One team imparticular intrigued me, the Grand Rapids Chicks. I immediately was in love and did a bunch of research in a short time. Then finally realized why this film was done. Penny Marshall did an amazing job with this movie. It's very accurate to the life the girls had back then even if its a fictionalized representation. Walter Harvey is a placeholder for Philip K. Wrigley for example. The Racine Belles did win in 1943, but they played the Kenosha Comets instead of the Peaches. Things like this keep it a fun movie and not a pure historical account. Either way a great film for anyone wanting to know something about women's league baseball. Review: An Old Favorite! - I simply love this movie. It’s a classic for a good reason - it works! The casting, performances, everything is on point in this film. Although I’ve seen it too many times to count, it’s nice to now own it and be able to step back in time.

Celebration of aapgbl
This is the best story about the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. The Rockford Peaches. The all star cast of Gina Davis, Tom Hanks, Madonna, and Lori Petty, and Garry Marshall make up a wonderful ensemble of characters. The iconic line, "There's no crying in baseball", delivered by Tom Hanks is forever etched in our memories. It's funny, bittersweet, and gives credence to the wonderful women that played baseball when men were off to war. With two sisters that are competing with and against each other, the love and hate relationship that have for one another is a timeless struggle portrayed beautifully by Gina Davis and Lori Petty. This was a timely purchase for me as the last living player, Mary Pratt, just passed away at the age of 101. She was an original member of the Rockford Peaches, on which the movie was based.

This is a movie that is what I call a classic. You can enjoy it more than once. Especially if you have lousy service and need something to watch.
