Flux is the Key to Great Resoldering
This is the flux that Louis Rossman uses by the gallon, and I can understand why. It makes reworking a board, especially surface mount components, so much easier. The kit came with a tube of flux and a plunger, so it's all you need to start using it.

Optional, perhaps, but very helpful.
THE RIGHT STUFF

I always use amtech
They have a number of different flux types and it is important to get the correct one for the job you are doing but, Amtech is my go-to flux.

Great performance, a bit difficult to clean up
I'm new to SMT soldering (well, pretty new to soldering in general) and this stuff is a game changer. I started with a tub of Rosin Paste Flux that I was using to tin my iron and painting onto my boards with a small brush. This worked okay (I guess), but once I started using this syringe and this Flux, it's a completely different game. The solder just slips directly onto the pad and the component leg and doesn't travel anywhere else. I've even been able to hand solder (pin-by-pin, not drag-soldering), TQFP32 and TQFP64 packages. The results could probably be prettier, but they work!

Dispenser is a nightmare
This flux is good. However the syringe it comes in has a plunger that simply flops around inside the syringe, meaning you can push flux out, but you can't pull back on it to relieve pressure. This means that any time you use it, the next day you'll come back to find a long coil of flux that has very slowly pushed its way out and onto you desk or whatever container this is in. I would much rather use cheaper flux that comes with a NON detachable plunger so that I can put negative pressure on the contents after using it. Like imagine if you couldn't release the pressure on a caulking gun after using it. Its terrible. Definitely wouldn't buy this again unless they change the syringe.

What the pros use
I bought this because it's what Louis Rossman uses. It's sticky and leaves a mess that's hard to clean if you use too much but it works very well. I'm only a hobby type so can't compare with other brands but if it's what Rossman uses it's probably good.

Genuine Amtech flux. Complete with Syringe Plunger, and Dispensing Tip.
It looks like this seller has addressed the issue where folks accidentally ordered this flux and did not select the option to order the entire kit, that includes the plunger and dispensing tip. Currently there is no longer an option to order only the syringe. Good move on the sellers part. This sticky flux works especially good for SMD components.

Great Flux.
Great flux. Works much better than my other crap Radioshack brand flux. Pretty sure it's authentic. Will buy again.

The hype about this flux is fully justified, it's the best on the market. Makes solder flow extordinarily well. Not cheap by any means, but you get what you pay for.

Amtech flux gel came on time. It's all as advertised. I am hoping it's not a knock-off which won't work well or will leave gunk residue or whatever on the equipment I'll be using it on. Rip-offs are getting harder and harder to spot. That is why I have chosen Amazon as a layer of protection. Hope this tactic works! ;-) Now, what I am VERY disappointed about is the item's expiration date! I am not someone who replenishes stock every week or so thus making mine expiration date somewhere in the end of the 3rd quarter this year very near. But it is what it is. I am hoping for the best which is why I purchased this one. Amtech is known for making high quality chemicals such as this one. I don't mind paying a little bit more on any product as long as I am getting it's quality worth! Amtech is one of those brands.
