This is Amazing!
This is an amazing product and I give Lenovo and Display Link 5 Stars for their part, but before I start with the review I just don't understand why this product does not have more that 1 to 2 stars on it, I mean this is not a bad product and is actually better than my Targus Docking Station. First of this Thinkpad Dock has 7 USB 3.0 Ports and one is dedicated to charging a USB device (ex. iPad, iPod, iPhone, etc,), it also features 2 DVI ports (note, that one of the DVI ports is DVI-D, meaning, its DVI Digital and can not be used with a DVI to VGA converter as the other DVI port can), also it features a Gigabit Ethernet Port (thanks to USB 3.0 now internet speeds are faster than before), and finally there is a Headphone/Microphone jack in the front for audio purposes. For my testing I wanted to try to put the USB 3.0 to its limits (since my USB 2.0 to VGA connector was the worst product ever) so I ran 2 HD YouTube videos, while transferring a 8.25 GB Torrent, and the dock ran fine with no lag, crash, or errors. So far so good! Furthermore, I wanted to put this dock to its limits (as a test run) so I ran Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Mutiplayer and Combat Arms, and surprisingly it ran with not lag or problems! (Do note, that this is a business dock and this is not really designed for gaming so if you want to buy this for gaming purposes use this money to buy a video card.) Overall, this is a really nice dock and I would give it 3 extra stars if I could for: having a dedicated charging port (in this case for my iPod 4G), a dedicated on and off switch on the top for power saving and turning on the computer from sleep mode, and how the video (that is ran by Display Link) is superb, with no problems or BSOD (as one other reviewer stated). So get this product if you want a nice USB 3.0 Docking Station solution for your laptop! (Note my tests were done using a Lenovo Ideapad S405 laptop with an A6 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a 500 GB HDD)

i read reviews so i knew i had to get the latest and greatest drivers right away
Using this with my Yoga 1 and 2 24in Dell monitors that gives me a 3 screen setup (2 ext monitors + the laptop). Also running Windows 8, not 10. After the first time connecting everything together, i read reviews so i knew i had to get the latest and greatest drivers right away. I'm in the IT field so my tech abilities is way above avg, but i would say, any teenager probably could have figure this out and gotten it to work. If you can install a printer on a Win7 or older machine, you shouldnt have a problem connecting this up. As for the actual device and its functionality, so far it has been working like a champ. Been using this for about 7-8 months now and it probably gave me a problem once, which might have also been caused by Windows updates. A reboot corrected my problem. Like mentioned above, i'm running 2 EXT monitors off the dock, ethernet LAN connection, and a few usb devices (mouse dongle, hard drive, usb drive). The fact i just need to plug 1 USB cable from the dock to my laptop every morning instead of each device is where this bad boy shines. No, this is not a true docking station, but i'd prefer unplugging 1 usb cable instead of consistently pressing down on some latch or manual unhinge mechanism. All in all, this thing is GREAT and looks very sleek (similiar to external hard drive). I'm about to buy another one for my home as I only run 1 in my office.

Gets the Job Done
I have a thinkpad 12.5 Lenovo Twist, for those of you whom are looking to expand the usability and viewable monitors with this notebook. I have been in Information Technology for close to 30 years now, so, maybe this review will hold a little more weight than most...The notebook is solid, so I thought this would be a good platform to expand on. Overall, the docking station works as prescribed. Setup was relatively simple. It was just about plug and play, however, you do need the included CD, which can be annoying considering the notebook doesn't have one, so an external had to be setup. I have two 23 inch higher end monitors connected to it with DVI cables going to the docking station. The USB 3 connection does keep up for the most part, however, you will see screen ghosting and flickering during some applications. Its not a show stopper, however, it can be distracting...another anomaly to mention, some other users have also reported as well, their will also be latency with keyboard and mouse usage. I am using a wireless Logitech mouse and keyboard with the transceiver plugged into the front of the docking station. It works, again, its a little quirky at times. And it is true, the notebook dies have to stay open in order for the docking station to stay awake and accessible. Other than that, the docking station is attractive in appearance, it definitely compliments at least this particular thinkpad notebook model. Hope this review was helpful.

I'm glad to report
I was looking for a dual DVI out put USB dock for work to make it easier to transition from home. The Thinkpad USB 3.0 dock is one of the few that has dual DVI. I see other docks seem to have a combination of DVI and HDMI. I'm running older monitors so this was less desirable of a solution for me. I see mixed reviews on this dock so I was somewhat concerned. I took the plunge anyway. I'm glad to report, no issues at all. The dock I received already had the newest firmware. I accidentally plugged the dock into one of my USB 2.0 ports. It seemed like there was a little lag. But I got a pop up prompt telling me I should plug into a usb 3.0 port. I put the dock in a USB 3.0 port and there were no issue. I have fast response between screens. It does everything I wanted. There are plenty of USB ports on the dock. Now I don't have to deal with plugging in multiple cables when I come to work. As long as you have a newer laptop with USB 3.0 I don't think you will be disappointed. ------------------- Slight edit. On my windows 7 laptop on boot, sometimes it seems to blue screen. My workaround solution is to turn the dock off. Plug in the dock and boot up the computer. Once you are logged in, power on the dock. My laptop loads the drivers and everything works fine. It seems when the laptop is suspended and when you try to resume with the dock powered it can cause a bluescreen. My other windows 8.1 laptop has no issues booting or resuming with the dock powered on.

Painful driver install, fuzzy/laggy at the end, not recomended
I was hesitant to buy this item based on the negative reviewer comments, but I decided to give it a shot since I figured it may be just user error (and because Amazon has a great return policy). Besides, this is the only docking solution out for the Lenovo X1 Carbon right now. Right off the bat, I installed the drivers off the CD (which I had to put on a usb stick due to no CD tray in my Lenovo). The installation wizard gave errors at first, but it eventually installed all the necessary components. My mouse/keyboard worked fine, but the monitor was lagging very badly. I then proceeded to download the updated USB host driver from [...] which brought down the lag, but the monitor resolution was still very fuzzy. I've never had this issue with previous (standard) Dell/Lenovo docks. I'm typing on one now, and it's just as clear as if it's hooked up to a desktop video card directly. Note: I'm currently using a Samsung 305T 30" monitor (DVI-D), which has amazing clarity with my home PC but fuzzy when hooked up to this dock. I also tried this with an HP ZR24W 24" IPS panel with similar results (fuzzy screen, some lag). On top of that, the resolution would not adjust properly on the secondary screen (I would select 1920x1200 and the background would fill something like 1440x900 and the rest would be black)!

Disappointed.
I purchased this for a coworker with a new Lenovo X1 Carbon after reading mixed reviews. It works fine as a hub for all of her plugs and dongles, but the biggest downfall is that the power cord doesn't plug into it and there are still a ton of cords on her desk. The best thing that Lenovo could have done with this would be to add a charging port for the laptop's power cord and to make the unit itself a little larger so that it doesn't fall over when everything is plugged into it. It's fine, but it's not as nice as the docking stations for the Thinkpad models. It was simple enough to set up. The X1 Carbon doesn't have an internal CD drive, so after saving the installation CD's contents to a USB drive and running the drivers, it works well. Edit: Extremely disappointed and I'm returning it today. Doesn't respond to new keyboard/mouse combo and screws with the external monitor's resolution too much. Not acceptable.

Works Great with the Lenovo Helix!
Bought this so I could use two displays with my Lenovo Helix and of course it comes with other benefits (extra USBs primarily). Gigabit ethernet also apparently is supported by I don't have GB internet so I can't comment. Setup: Before connecting the dock to my Helix, I first downloaded the latest driver from the Lenovo website. Once installed, I attached the dock via usb (at this point, I had already connected the power, ethernet, and video cables to the dock). Some people have mentioned a delay when connecting a wireless mouse receiver to the actual dock. I also had the same experience so I just attached it to my Helix. Not a big deal since the dock itself has 5 USB slots. Also when you initially setup the displays, you might be confused. DON'T right click your desktop to try to customize the screen settings using "Graphic Settings" or "Graphic Options". It will only show one screen. Instead, you probably didn't notice a little icon in the bottom right corner which is a shortcut for the "Lenovo LinkDisplay Manager". It basically the analog to the "Screen Resolution" but with the options that you might find in the Intel Graphics manager. So far, so good. Currently, I use it as follows: 1. Get home tired. 2. Connect my Helix to power. 3. Connect Dock to Helix via USB cable (while Helix is in closed mode, but if you leave it open you can have up to 3 screens! [including the built-in display]) 4. Connect Logitech wireless receiver to the other USB slot on my Helix. 5. Enjoy So, the whole wireless receiver thing is the smallest con but again not really a problem. I *HEARD* that if you move the received further way using a USB extension you can get it to work, but I haven't tried it. Nonetheless, I just wanted to write this review to balance out the reviews because I am having a wonderful experience with this setup and was initially very skeptical to buy. AGAIN, this is with the Lenovo Helix. I can't speak to the experience with other computers.

Function is hit or miss. Works great when you get a good one
Had issues and amazon took care of them immediately with a return and refund so I could order another. A+ as usual for Amazon. That said, I suggest you order an item either shipped/sold by Amazon or at least fulfilled by Amazon in case it doesnโt work. The first in me I ordered was defective but the second worked fine (ordered from fivestarexperience with great results!). Ordered a new open box Lenovo thinkpad docking station and had to return it. Ordered another one used that was stated to be in โexcellent working conditionโ and was very satisfied. The new one was essentially DOA: when plugged in and connected the connected monitors and keyboard/mouse constantly lost connection. I would have assumed a new driver was needed or the usb cable was faulty except that I have an identical device I use for work with the same laptop and was able to verify all cables and driver on that working component. If youโve installed the driver executable and have tested your monitor cable(s) and still have intermittent connectivity I suggest you return the item. When the docking station is working properly, install/setup is very straightforward and essentially plug and play.
