MXBAOHENG Electric Scissors Cordless Cardboard Cutter Rotary Cutter with Safety Switch, Power Box Cutter Fabric Cutting Machine (2 Batteries)

This review is for the yellow 16.8 volt MXBAOHENG Electric Rotary Cutter Cordless Electric Scissor Rechargeable Cardboard Cutter for Cloth/Paper/Carpet/Leather with a Cutting Thickness of less than one inch thick (Part number # HQ-2560). There is another MXBAOHENG cutter being sold that looks similar to this 70 mm yellow cutter but it is green in color and is a 12 volt machine with less cutting power and speed. There are also numerous rotary cutters on Amazon that run on 4 volt batteries but their RPMs are half of this cutter and there material cutting thickness rating is less than the reviewed unit. While this tool is sold as being capable of cutting many different materials, I've used it only to cut down cardboard boxes for recycling. I receive lots of boxes from Amazon. Using a razor utility knife to cut them down for recycling is time-consuming and less safe since I sometimes cut up boxes towards me with the razor blade exposed which could result with injury. For me, using this tool is vastly safer than using a utility knife. I've been looking for a solution to cut down cardboard boxes more quickly, more safely. Using this cutter is faster and safer than cutting down boxes by hand. Its also more fun. The tool has a built in safety thumb switch with that must be engaged for the cutter to operate but it can be operated with one hand. There is an adjustable thickness guard (with an easy thumb screw adjustment for material variance) which can be increased if the tool bogs down when cutting through cardboard. The tool feels balanced in the hand and is much easier to used than a pair of scissors or box knife. It weighs 2.5 lbs. with the battery. Like every other knife, with extended use the blade will become dull. The tool has a built-in sharpening stone which can be used to touch up the cutting edge without removing the blade. It can literally be sharpened on the tool in three seconds. When the blade ultimately needs replacing, a replacement blade is included alone with a chuck key to remove the blade. Additional 70 mm rotary blades are available on Amazon, but that should be thousands of boxes from now. There is a “self oiler” on the tool which greases the rotary blade as it operates. The motor got warm after several boxes but never shut down (which it will do as a precaution if the tool overheats). The 16.8 volt yellow rotary cutter can cut down dozens of boxes before the battery charge indicator changes from 100% to 75%. Part of this endurance is because the battery is a larger 16.8 four cell rechargeable lithium battery rather than the three cell 12 volt version sold as the green 70 mm rotary cutter. Interestingly both cutters weigh the same without batteries (1 pound 12.5 ozs.) and they look similar and currently sell for a same price on Amazon. However, you can feel and see the difference between the two similar products because the 16.8 volt version has more toque for cutting and runs at a higher RPM speed (880) than the lower powered 12 volt version. Having a second 16.8 volt battery (included!) pretty much guarantees never running out of power while cutting up boxes. Its not a perfect box cutting machine as sometimes it will hang on getting the box creases but if you want strips of cut up boxes, this fits the bill.

So we do canvas work, we make covers for boats, seats where we live. There's a 130 seats we had to cut out. I thought this would be great, you know what? If you're going to do hard little technical curves, then you might want to cut it by hand however, for all the blanks we cut. Aha, this thing is like frigging grease lightning. Go man go

I have rheumatoid arthritis and was pulling the carpets by hand. I paid the price the next day. I love this. Cuts the carpet like butter. Recommend cut small at a time. Worth it trust me.

First off, it came with 2 batteries, only 1 worked... the trigger has a lock that jams and you have to wiggle the trigger to get it to unlock. The screws constantly have to be tightened. The cheap set screws that hold the blade sheared off in the first 10 minutes. I will be replacing it today with a better built unit. Do not buy for Synthetic Turf.

I was very skeptical about buying this, but I needed to cut through several layers of thick burlap around tree root balls, so made the purchase. Worked great! Money well spent.

don't expect this to cut much, its very selective on the carboard it can cut.
