what kind of batteries are best for it?

We have provided 2x1.5V AAA Alkaline batteries in the package, the laser measure will power off automatically after 3 minutes without any instrument to save batteries. Is it allowed for air travel?

I would imagine it is. As long as you are not firing the laser into the stewardesses eyes! Keep it in your cabin bag. A phone has more capabilities!
