Good replacement for the Craftsman 917.370441
HI Folks- I have a Craftsman electric start lawn mower ( Model no. 917.370441 ). I've had a heck of a time both finding where the heck they hid the battery on the mower, and finding the correct replacement battery. For those looking for the battery on this model, it's UNDER the blade deck/shroud. Tip the mower onto it's side, and look towards the bagger area. This is the battery cover. To undo it, there are a couple of screws on the outside of the mower where the bag sits. Undo these and the plastic housing can be pulled fee, along with the battery. There is an inline plug the the battery wires plug into. Disconnect the wires, but DO NOT toss that dead battery yet! You will need the wires from it to use the new battery. The new battery will arrive with just the little metal terminals shown. You will need to clip the wires from the dead battery at the terminals, strip the insulation back and solder the old wires onto the new battery. Put it back together in reverse order and you should be good to go. I have now been using this battery for about a month and a half, and it starts my mower up each time with no problems. Sorry if my review seems a bit wordy, but info for this mower is VERY difficult to find. Even Sears doesn't show the electric start parts on there website or in the owners manual.

Perfect fit very pleased
Craftsman lawnmower replacement but without connections. Easy to add wires to battery yourself. Fits perfectly as expected and advertised. Plenty of starting power easy to install myself hope it lasts better than the original battery from craftsman.

Exact replacement for my Craftsman mower
The battery arrived within 2 days of ordering it. It was the exact replacement for the existing battery. It arrived 52% charged and with a smart charger took less than an hour to fully charge. Works great in the mower.

Good Value
Seems like a good value next to Sear's highway robbery prices (and those of Husqvarna, etc). So far so good. Battery works for my Craftsman walk-behind mower #917.370442. Received battery shipped in a reasonable few days, and it came fully charged with 12.76V showing on my digital volt meter. Some reviewers seem to say you must solder. That is actually your choice. The tabs on the battery would permit you to use crimp on blade connectors with the factory harness. I figured with moisture, dirt, vibration soldering is actually the best way to go for longevity. Soldering connections and wrapping in glue-lined heat shrink tubing would be better. So, I snipped the factory harness from Sears' overpriced ($80+) little 12V 2.8AH Leoch battery, stripped wire ends, attached blade connectors suitable for 14g wire. Then soldered them over and above the crimp. Then slid blades onto the tabs on battery with heat shrink in place, and soldered those too. Heat gun melted heat shrink and I feel good about the connection. I did charge the battery after receiving on general principle but it was less than an hour before it was to9pped off. Mower has good cranking power. So far so good. Only been in service a week. Company would be well served providing an application chart. You can call them however.

Not enough cranking power.
I put the battery on a battery tender to let it get a full charge before I installed the battery into my lawnmower. The battery didn't have enough power to turn the engine over at all.

Worked, had to charge it
I was looking for another battery for my mower, the previous one I had only lasted for one season, I may have hastened it's demise, since I did not bring it in for the winter, this one is shaped different, so I had to modify my holder on my mower, hoping it will last a little longer.
