Can these be used in a fish tank as decoration?

Although they would look beautiful, be very careful using natural crystals in a fish tank.  Some crystals cannot take being submerged in water for long periods as they can partially or even fully dissolve (lapis lazuli; moonstone; black tourmaline; fluorite; etc), and some crystals/minerals contain substances which are toxic (lapis lazuli can contain copper or sulfur; tiger’s eye contains asbestos; tourmaline contains aluminum; etc), others that can change the pH level when put in water, which could be harmful to your fish.  Though none of the crystals in this set appear to be dyed, many crystal sellers do use dyes to enhance or even change the color of the stones, which could also leach into the water.  Your probably safe using undyed quartz varieties (clear, amethyst, smoked, etc, though rose quartz contains iron and titanium), but you should definitely do some research on every type of crystal you are considering using in a fish tank to ensure they will not be harmful to the fish or alter the water in the tank in a negative way.  It is the various minerals present in crystals which gives them their beautiful and diverse colors, but not all are safe for humans or animals.  In fact, after handling crystals, it’s a good idea to wash your hands.  There’s a trend to create “crystal water” to drink for various reasons but obviously, many crystals are unsafe to just throw in or soak in some water and drink.  You really need to research any crystal anyone might consider using like this, in addition to verifying the type of crystal you get is actually what it is advertised as, and what if any treatments (dye or irradiation, for example), have been used on it, as some can most definitely be harmful.

Are these crystals real? Some look dyed

They do appear genuine, and the ones in this set do not appear dyed.  Note that some crystals should not be submerged in water (they can partially or even totally dissolve), so before anyone tries to “wash” them, be sure you look up the properties of the crystal before doing so (may explain why a couple off reviewers thought “paint” was coming off them when they tried to “clean” them).

Are the crystals authentic?

Yes it’s a very nice set and all crystals are legit. I use crystals for healing purposes and this box is perfect. The raw amethyst, quartz crystal, and rose quartz are very authentic. The chakra healing crystals are perfect healing tools. Well worth the purchase.

Question 4

I can’t identify the crystals because they are so rough and all look the same. How do we polish them?

Accepted Answer

I tried simply rinsing the dirt and dust off with water and a soft polishing cloth. Most of the paint started peeling off these painted rocks after that, confirming my first thoughts- I bought a box of painted gravel.
