Fairly fast and pulls carriages with ease
The media could not be loaded. This train is really easy to use and works well with the big jigs set we have, as you would expect. The first thing you need to do is find a battery as it she's not come with any, unscrew the bottom and put the battery in and they screw up again, it takes 1 x AAA battery.Once the battery is in there is a little slider on top, the central position is off and then you slide it into the forward or reverse positions at each side for the train to move forward or backwards. It is quite fast and pulls carriages with no problems, even up a bridge. We have been using it with some carriages from Big Jigs and some other makes and the carriages and the train has been pulling them fine. They connect simply via magnets and the train magnet is flexible in that it will move about to flex with the track, which means that the carriages stay attached through tight turns. The train is well made and feels solid to use, it does not derail on the track we have been using, the front wheels are just plastic while the back wheels have small rubber tyres. It does make a slight whining sound when in motion but it is really quite. Our daughter is nearly three and loves watching it go round the track, it's well made, just takes one battery and is fun, really love it.

Nice little engine
The media could not be loaded. This a really nice addition to anyone’s wooden railway set and adds a nice extra dimension to play, particularly as sets get bigger. My nephews have inherited my son’s extensive collection and though they’re too small to play with it, I certainly appreciate it! The engine takes one AAA battery, that needs a small screwdriver to fit. The engine has enough traction to pull a few carriages and will go up an incline, though it will struggle with too many or too steep climb. It has to be mentioned that if you have any of the bridges that come with a standard figure-of-eight set, that the engine is too tall to fit under, but will go under the sort made with riser blocks.

Powerful and Pink
The media could not be loaded. This pink engine, battery operated, is a high quality addition to any wooden trains set.Bigjigs quality is up there with Brio.Powered by a Triple A battery, which you must supply and insert, the engine can then go forwards or in reverse, or the middle setting of the switch turns it off.Nice colours. Steady speed.

Not very powerful
Whilst the train looks and feels great the motor is sadly not very powerful. It can’t power even itself up the bridges of my daughters train set let alone pull any carriages with it. Disappointing considering the price for just the engine piece.

Okay for what it is, but no ‘freewheel’ option like Brio battery trains
The media could not be loaded. First off, this train is very pink - Make sure that your little one likes the colour pink! As with all BigJigs trains, this comes nicely boxed. Other BigJigs that we have had come with a little bit of wooden track in the box. This one doesn’t.Before use, you will need to insert one x AAA battery. To do this, you will need to unscrew the base with a small Philips screwdriver. Once inserted, you are ready to go. On the top, there is the switch - Push it forward for the train to go forward, backwards to go backwards and return the switch to the middle to turn it off. Unlike your other trains which are usually wooden, this one is plastic in composition. The rear wheels have a rubber outer to enable them to grip to your wooden train track. The motor is powerful enough. The train has a decent enough / average speed and pulls a few carriages. Exactly what you would expect and in line with other battery powered trains of this ilk.My main gripe with this, is that when you put the switch to the ‘STOP’ position, the wheels do not move freely. We also have battery powered trains from Brio and these ones have a free wheeling option. This allows your little one to push the train around the track without damagin the internal motor. Unfortunately, this BigJigs train doesn’t have this option. When in the ‘STOP’ position and pushed around, the wheels and internal mechanism clicks. I fear that this will cause damage to the mechanism over time. It’s tricky, as it’s hard to explain to a toddler not to push the toy train. It’s a shame that this doesn’t freewheel, as it’s entirely possible to build this into the toy, a per Brio’s design.

It works very well. We liked it.
The media could not be loaded. The colors are very sweet. Compatible with Ikea rails and trains. It works with one small battery. You need to open the screw and insert the battery. It has buttons to move forward and backward. My daughter loves playing it. She enjoys connecting trains with magnets and watching them go on the rail. I advise.

Great little train!
Great little battery operated train - goes forward or in reverse, which is really fun to use around tracks where the train is picking up and dropping off cargo. There's a magnetic contact point on the back of the train to allow it to connect with carriages and pull them along. We've been using the train on our Thomas the Tank engine trains and cranes track and it mostly works well, it's just not quite powerful enough to pull carriages up the uphill sections of the track (but it can go up alone just fine). The only downside of the train is the on/off switch - I think because the off switch is the midpoint between forward and reverse, it makes it quite hard for little hands to switch it off - my three year old just ends up moving it from forward to reverse or vice versa, he finds it hard to settle on the mid position of the switch, so needs help with it.Cute little train and a great price though, my kids love it.
