Not removable. They are very much like inexpensive sneakers or deck shoes,

what is the thickness of the heel? does it have some heel or is it all flat?

There is a tiny rise in the heel, but for all practical purposes the sole is pretty flat. I love these slippers for house wear, especially in warm weather.
