Old healthy white handsets both showed tears on the rubber seal. These are now just backups since we got a newer model. But when the new one had to be returned for a warranty replacement, decided to fix the seals so we could use the handsets without fear of water intrusion ruining them. I found the opening info online to be fairly simple using a small bolt to thread into the bottom recess then gently pulling with pliers to remove. Then it was a simple matter to clean off some bits of dried toothpaste that entered unnoticed in the past, pull off the old seal, inert the new seal, cap it and reassemble. On one handset the top shaft was very loose, found a small screw had vibrated loose so tightened up the screw before reassembly. Both repairs are working perfectly again. Considering the age of these, amazing the batteries still charge good enough for several uses.
