Does this dryer have brushes (the small carbon elements in the motor that need to be replaced periodically)?

I’m not sure if it has brushes that need to be replaced but I can tell you I like this dryer very much. I love the different blower options. I have 2 cockers spaniels that are groomed every week and it has served its purpose very well. I would and have recommended this dryer for people looking to purchase one.

does this dryer have heat and cool temp?

This dyer has a dial for heat low to high which coresponse to cool to warm. The warmer is hot but not too hot. I love this dyer I use it on my mini schanzcers and have no problems. I use to help a professional groomer and this dyer is nice for the money.

I have a 4.0 hp dryer already. i would like to buy a conversion kit to be able to use as a stand dryer too. is this possible?

I don't know actual heat range. However i own a very heavy coated golden doodle and on the low setting it does a good job. The velocity is excellent. Worth everything I paid for it.
