My dad has late stage Alzheimers. I got this Tangram kit as a Christmas gift with the hope that it would help to keep him busy. Remarkably, he LOVES the Tangram! I wish there were additional add-on sets. On Christmas morning my daughter worked with him, teaching him how to do them. After an hour he was able to do them on his own and seemed to be enjoying it. Several days later my mom walked into the kitchen to find my dad playing with these without prompting and he was drawing the shapes on paper and writing notes! It has been remarkable. He plays for hours with these and is very entertained by them so much so that he has started trying to draw his own templates. Such a great game and well worth the investment.

I ordered this for my 101 year old Mother. She enjoys doing the puzzles...I even ordered extra puzzles to keep her somewhat occupied. There is an easy side and a more challenging side. Pieces are made of nice wood and come in a nice storage box. Good gift for an elderly person with dementia.

This product is well made. However, I was disappointed with the number of patterns included in the set…only three. For the price, I though it should have included many more.

Good use for those living with alzheimers

Got this for my father who has dementia and lives in a memory care facility. It came very well put together and packaged. I like it as it doesn't look like a child's game. Very good for stimulation for him. Highly recommend!

My 88-year old Mom has moderate (mid-stage) dementia and macular degeneration, among several other conditions. We're looking after her at home, since in our culture we don't outsource elderly care. This makes it very hard to find an activity that she can do on her own and enjoy some time by herself without having to stare at walls with dark thoughts. This Tangram game is perfectly tailored for our needs. The game is not too complicated (has two levels of difficulty) and she is able to see the lines despite her poor eyesight. There's a number of pre-determined shapes that she can choose from, and later on when we'll get bored we can even invent our own shapes for her to do. She certainly seems to enjoy the game thoroughly, and spends about an hour or so every day with it, giving her caregivers some respite. I highly recommend it. The only thing is, for sure as the disease progresses I'm sure that one day she won't be able to do it any longer, but for now it's a great solution. Highly recommend it for mild to moderate demential.
