Chokher Bali , translated as Aank Ki Kirkiri in Hindi, is a powerful novel by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Set in early 20th-century Bengal, the story revolves around Binodini, a young, educated widow whose arrival into a traditional household stirs emotions, challenges societal expectations, and brings to the fore complex human relationships. A nuanced tale of love, betrayal, and desire, this literary masterpiece showcases Tagore’s deep understanding of human psychology and social norms. A timeless work that continues to resonate with readers today. A tale of love, loss, and the quiet rebellion of a woman ahead of her time. Explore the emotional complexity of Tagore’s most compelling female character. Delve into themes of widowhood, desire, and societal norms in colonial Bengal. A personal and written thank you note from seller
One of the greatest novels written by Tagore, the book arrived today, sold by swestbooks. I saw the netflix version of the book and fell in love with the story. Unfortunately I cannot read Bangla so ordered this hindi translation. I hope it will do justice to this masterpiece. I liked the book delivery with a hand written thank you note from the shop owner. I really appreciate that. Will be visiting the store once things get back to normal.

Interesting read. Some parts are not perfectly translated (especially Binodini's letters), but worth a read.

A classic on human emotions.
A masterpiece on human emotions. The great Rabindra Nath Tagore creates amazing story of passion, love, social restrictions. Each character has its own share of positive, negative and grey areas. Reader is carried by the author along with interplay of emotions of love, lust, friendship and morality. *****
