A Guide for Adults with Hip Dysplasia

Hope and Encouragement
Bought this for my daughter who has had hip replacement surgery on both hips. She has devoured it and calls me often with great finds she has read. It has answered her questions and addressed her doubts (something her Dr.'s couldn't do), given her insight and helped her tremendously in understanding her limiations as well as given her the benefit of knowing she's in a minority bit she's not alone. It has given her hope and encouragement. A wonderful find. Thank you!

What to expect from this condition
This is a great book, it is definitely worth buying even despite the rather hefty price tag. Good to dip in and out of and a must if you've just been diagnosed. Big thanks to the ladies who wrote it as it must be the first book on the subject, I just wish I'd had it 14 years ago! Thank you for writing it.

Having had this diagnosis and subsequent surgery at age 17, this book helped me not feel so isolated...and now 40 years later is helping me accept the surgery I know I face in the future. Very helpful answers to even the long-standing emotional stuff that has gone along with hip dysplasia diagnosis.

One of the few (if not only) books dedicated to hip dysplasia for adults. There's lots of information of hip dysplasia for babies or infants, but rarely can you find one for adults. Very helpful and well written. I wish I would have read this book sooner!

Excellent, very detailed information from authors who have had multiple hip surgeries between them, giving them first hand experience. Includes over 400 quotes from real patients and their perspectives, along with detailed descriptions about the condition, surgical options, and much more. Highly recommend!

Great Information
Great information for people who are faced with the horrible realization that you have crappy hips. This is good information as to a PAO and THR. It has eased some of my worries with my upcoming PAO.

A Guide for Adults with Hip Dysplasia
My husband has just been diagnosed with hip dysplasia and is due to have an operation to hopefully correct it. I bought him this book as it was recommended by his consultant to read through before he decided on which op to go with. It explains in detail what other people have gone through who have had this diagnosis and what you can do to prepare yourself for the operation and how to expect to be after. People have written in their exact experiences from when they were diagnosed to having whichever operation (hip replacement, hip resurfacing or PAO - periacetabular osteotomy) to their recovery. It covers everything from hip anatomy. diagnosis, treatment, to hospital stays, recovery and getting back to normal life. Most definately worth reading if you or any close family member has this diagnosis. We both basically know what to expect and what he'll be like before, during and after the operation so we can hopefully prepare ourselves!!!

Brilliant book for anyone affected by hip dysplasia
Quite simply a must read for anyone affected by hip dysplasia as an adult. Both those suffering with the condition and those who see their loved one with dysplasia.I have suffered as an adult with the condition for over a decade and until this book came out there was only information on dysplasia in children and dogs!!! I am now on my way to reconstructive hip surgery (a PAO operation) and this book has given me support and knowledge along with suggested internet based groups where I have been able to talk to women all over the world struggling with the same condition.Wonderfully written by 2 ladies who have had the condition so first hand experience along with many other sufferers thoughts and opinions throughout every stage of diagnosis to curative surgery. Many of my thoughts and fears were mirrored in the book and I found it VERY reassurring to read as I was not the only one suffering with a rare condition that DDH (Developmental Dysplasia in the Hip) is.A MUST BUY FOR ANYONE WITH OR AFFECTED BY DYSPLASIA :)

I was dignosed worh Bilatetal hip Dysplasia just over 2 years ago and I'm still struggling ( I have just turned 50)The book was fantastic it explained so much that I didn't know and also things I really could relate to. It was very easy to read and understand (I don't read much but I found this very addictive and couldn't put it down !!). This book was well worth the money and I will keep referring to it as I move through the different phases of this diiblitating condition . You will not be disappointed if you purchase this book . Xx

Waste of time and money
Very disappointing. I expected to learn something from this book. If you have any basic knowledge of human anatomy and did a couple of searches on this topic on the internet you don't need this book. Waste of time and money.

This is the first book I've seen with regards to hip dysplaysia.i have this condition and found this book very helpful and it has answered a lot of my questions.i feel more able now,to speak to my consultant and ask about my care.the book covers everything from symptoms, choices of treatment and operations, rehab and tips on recovery.the authors both understand how hard this condition is to live with and have experience in dysplaysia.if you have dysplaysia, this book will help you and others close to you,to understand what you are dealing with and hopefully help you to cope.
