Everyone tries to build a better mouse trap. Hell of an endorsement for Victor. Have had these snappers in some form my entire life. So when it came time to take back the farm, these were a natural purchase. They've gotten a bit cheaper over the last 40 years, but they still work as expected. They're easy to use, easy to set, cheap enough you can ditch them but good enough to send in for round two (or 5....). Still copper, steel, and wood. Only issue is, out of the box they're not very sensitive. They'll work for a house mouse, but a field mouse is a bit too small. 5 minutes with some pliers however, these are back to a hair trigger that your uninvited guests wont see coming. For the quality, price, and quantity- Would recommend.

I recall having to set mousetraps as a kid in the 80's... Back then, the traps had a mechanism that required the setter to adjust the sensitivity manually. Although I had confidence and very sure hands, many of traps set off prematurely in attempt to kill a finger or two. Between then and now, there was advancement in engineering specific to that mechanism. And this advancement allows the setter to have fingers out of line of fire while setting... Although not impossible to have one go off in your hand, it's likely to only "bark" and not "bite." Brilliant! And the effectiveness of the trap remains same--in my case i estimate I kill the mouse 75% of time vs losing bait with trap remaining set. I'll note that I've changed since the 80's in that i really hate killing mice nowadays... Pretty sure I looked forward to it when in my youth. Killing them is necessary evil though as they are ridiculously fast to procreate and will chew wiring, pilfer food, build nests, defecate everywhere. I target them in my outbuildings and these traps are relatively humane--usually a 'lights out' kill. If dealing with mice infestation, I encourage use of mechanical trap vs poison. The poison is a relative slow death, can put other animals at risk, and tough telling what the full life of the poison actually is as you'll likely never dispose of the mouse--it may go out into nature, die, then poison another animal. In addition, these traps are reusable... The only way poison is reused is as a undesired side-effect. Hope this helps. Good luck! Update 3/23: I'm still happy with these traps. I've used 8 traps and have set them repeatedly (~20 times each) and none have failed mechanically. However, I encountered 'elite' mice with extreme keenness to trap operations... Regardless of how well I tucked peanut butter into the tray, they could clean it without setting off trap. So I resorted to modifying the trap. Using a needle-nose, I slightly pressed in the horizontal steel (located above tray) that contacts the wire bar. Success. I visibly marked these traps as they are more difficult to set--they sound like a firecracker going off in your hand... Luckily, I've spared my digits to this point.

Best mouse traps ever. I’ve tried almost all the others and they just don’t work. I’d prefer a more humane version- but at some point you just have to say enough is enough. (and I’m where we have hantavirus).

I got the 20 trap box.. They come just tossed in a box, just like what you see.. They are not individually wrapped or anything.. One adjustment that I make with mine is, and this does bite me from time to time.. But I adjust mine so that they are more sensitive.. I found that if you have baby mice, they way that they come from the factory is too tight, or hard to set off, and that smaller, baby and young mice, eat the stuff that I put on it (peanut butter) so lightly, that they do not push hard enough on the lever for them to make it go off.. So what I do is.. That little notch on the bait piece.. I push it, or bend it, just slightly straighter up, a little closer to 90 degrees.. Doing this makes it more sensitive.. But it is like a double edge sword.. Yes, you can make it VERY sensitive, to the point that just trying to set it down can make it go off.. and in that aspect, yes, you can get snapped on your fingers because of this too, if you hold it in the wrong spot.. But on the positive note, it is almost impossible for even a light eating baby mouse to not set it off.. Which means there is more like a 95% chance of getting the baby or young mice, vs more like 5% with the way that it comes from the factory. Adult mice are about 60 / 40 with the way that it comes from the factory. Either way, I have been using this brand for years. I live in the city and when you get those neighbors that you prefer not to mention move in to those rentals.. Then their little companions love to come over to my house to visit.. and they are not welcome.. I have had it happen many times.

Victor traps have worked best for me for many years. But sometimes a smart rat or mouse can outwit any trap. I was glad to find 20 of them in a deal as I have decided to make a mouse mine field to catch whatever is under my sink. Hopefully this will do the trick. I'll update with the results. I bored small holes in the traps and mounted each one with a screw onto a piece of ply board. This thing is like nitro glycerin, if one goes off most of the others will. Not for someone which is afraid of this type of trap.

These have just not been tested properly - The resistance arms that actually cause the snapping are not curled over the edge enough so that if it gets out of alignment, it either: stops working and is a one time use. OR is dangerous while setting - case in point, it snapped on my finger while I was just setting the trap. They make proper ones that I have bought in the store where there is a little curl on the resistance arm that actually protects it and makes it reusable and safe. I would not recommend this product at all, and think it's dangerous.

I'm back to buy my second box, These simple mouse traps work perfectly every time! All you have to do is bait it right and place it where mice travel. Last year I had some grain stored in my garage, and did not realize it was drawing mice until my garage was overrun. I have used other traps in the past, but my husband always used this kind, and he always caught any mice that showed up. in our house, so I bought this box of 20 traps because I do not reuse them, just toss them in the garbage with the mouse still in the trap. I just kept trapping them until they were all gone. But this winter, though I have not had mice in my house in years, I saw one run between the wall and my fridge. I still had 4 traps left from last year so I started setting traps down in that small space between my fridge and the wall. There is one mistake that some people make, and then complain that the traps don't work. That is to use only peanut butter as bait, or too small a piece of cheese. Peanut butter is too soft, so if a mouse is careful he can lick it off without setting the trap off. My husband always used a good chunk of cheese that took up the whole metal tongue except where the latch goes, and he pressed the cheese hard onto the tongue, so it was not easy for the mouse to get it off the tongue. This year I did not have solid cheese, so I used grated cheese, squished it together tightly using a small dab of peanut butter to bond the cheese shreds together, then pressed it onto the tongue and mounded it up as much as would go on the tongue without interfering with the latch. The only time it failed to catch a mouse, is when I put a little too much peanut butter, and the mouse was able to steal it without setting off the trap. I re-set the same trap and it caught a mouse, so I know the trap was not faulty, just my bait. Between last year and this winter, I have used 18 traps and caught a mouse with every one. But I probably have more, so i am back to order more traps. Let me just conclude here, that there is no need to buy more expensive traps These may be a little more sensitive to set (I couldn't remember how, so I looked it up on you tube), but if you bait them right, and place them well, there could not be a more effective trap. The bait is most important, but if you use an adequate amount of firm cheese, press it onto the tongue well, then add a touch of peanut butter on the cheese, then set the trap, when these traps stop catching mice, its because your mice are all gone, or you need to find another place to set the traps.

Update: I was able to see some user videos on Amazon regarding how to set up this trap and pointers, such as super-gluing the bait. It actually worked. Therefore, I have updated the review from 1 star to 3 stars. First, the arm bar does not reach the metal tab. I have to bend the metal tab to insert the arm bar. I put peanut butter all over the tab, and on both traps I have set up, the mice eat all the peanut butter without triggering the trap. Save your money.
