Are they durable and does the ink last and not dry out quickly?

Haven't used them long enough to know how soon they run out..but they haven't dried.

Will these wash out of clothes or off of upholstered furniture?

It wash's of your hands easily. but I don't know about clothes or furniture. I really did not like these daubers. you need to press very hard on the paper to get a full daub.

Is it possible to just purchase select colors? I am looking to buy brown, black and gray, 5 of each color.

YOU MIGHT TRY A BAKING SUPPLY STORE THAT HAS LIQUID ICING IN THE VARIOUS COLORS.

Are these permanent on paper/cardstock without smearing or wiping off?

I feel they are permanent, however when first dabbed on paper they will smear if you touch them until dry which only takes a few seconds. My son uses them for making art projects on paper. I’ve never tried to remove the marker from paper.
