I really like this journal even though it does have its flaws, so I’ll just get straight into them cuz that’s what you’re here for. The decorative spine of this book is eventually going to come off after a lot of use. It’s not as well made as the front and back cover and lacks sturdiness. And as others have complained, the design is just an image that has just been printed on top of the journal, it is not actually embossed although it does have some texture. I personally don’t mind, only because I had prior knowledge that embossing of any sort on leather/hide is very expensive, we’re talkin $100+. So $30 for a cheaper alternative is a steal, you don’t get the real deal on Amazon, lower your expectations XD. Now into the things I like about this journal. The size is great if you plan on doing a lot of writing, and the lines on the pages are lightly colored. Too much contract between the lines and the color of the page in other journals have given me headaches and eye strain under bright lights. The claps are great, I waved and shook this journal around trying to get them to unhook and they didn’t. Other reviews have stated that theirs were missing the bookmarks, my was not, they were both securely wedge between the pages. One last thing I like about this book is it gives you a brief history note on the art style and design of the journal. So if you want to learn about it or buy more things under this same style you’ll know what to search for. I’m gonna look it up myself because I’m curious. In all, I think the book is worth it. It’s esthetically pleasing, it’s not too cheaply made and it’s not too expensive.

It's an OK journal. The paper seems good. I have a love of old books and I think I set this up to fail a bit. I was hoping for something that reminded me of old books in a library, the kind that had been there for decades or centuries. This isn't that and, were it that, it would surely cost much more. Still it didn't hit for me with that connection / nostalgia. You may love it.

I’m going to give you the ultimate review of this journal. It’s absolutely incredible, glamorous, elegant, and impressive. I will touch on what other commenters wrote as well which I found to be untrue. It came in perfect condition, sent in a soft pouch surrounded by bubble wrap in a box. Good delivery. It looks ancient, dark, masculine, divine, important, captivating, and above all bewitching. Size: some were “surprised” by the size of this journal. It says “Grande” in the title. Please look up what that means in Spanish. And then look up the word “Grand” in English. Then reference the measurements literally given in the description… ok. This journal is large. Big. Huge! Like a textbook. It’s the exact size it says it is. Nothing to be surprised about. I wasn’t. Color: some low star reviews say this journal is green. Not at all. In regular light or dim light the journal presents as black. In full light or sunlight like my video you will see undertones of darkest forest green. It honestly looks like an ancient black door that’s weathered over the centuries and certain parts of the metal have oxidized like the Statue of Liberty. It’s black, dark grey, and dark green. It has an ancient look which I adore. It has much more dimension than solid jet black, but if you’re expecting pure black then think again. Embossing: the commenters saying it’s just a flat printed image are wrong. And possibly blind. The entire front and back are raised all over the carvings. It’s subtle. You can feel it. It’s done expertly. Every single groove you see in the picture is stamped or whatever into the actual cover and back, so in no way is this flat. Gold details: the gold trim all along this book is exquisite. It shines! And when you put it in light? It sparkles with all kinds of colors. It’s very enchanting. Cover design: the design is absolutely beautiful but what you can only know by holding it in light is that this cover is sprinkled with what looks like diamond dust. Teeny tiny particles of light are all over it. They twinkle and shimmer but only in direct light. Expertly done, not gaudy like glitter. It seems the book itself is infused with magic bursting out. The clasps: mine were perfectly sturdy. The clasps are actually little magnets that latch on. Easy to open and close. They have an aged bronze look which is really nice. The Gilding: I think I would’ve liked gold edges on all the pages… but I do like shiny. Instead, they’ve gilded the pages with a print that makes the edges of the paper a dull yellow color which mimics an ancient tome’s pages that have been hidden in a sorcerer's lair for centuries. I like it. Pages: The pages are high quality and wonderful. Who writes in a journal with a sharpie? Odd. Not me. I use a pen like normal adults. And its good enough for me. Haven’t tried a fountain pen yet. Some commentor said the lines weren’t dark enough… oh brother. They’re just fine. Check your glasses perhaps? They’re perfect for anyone with proper vision. Extra: this grimoire comes with 2 silk ribbon bookmarks. One red one gold. Nice touch. It also has a beautiful hidden pocket on the back cover for storing any number of artifacts. Clever. All in all… this magnificent tome, glamorous grimoire, and sacred keeper of ineffable secrets is absolutely perfect… for me, at least.

So. I originally bought this sometime ago when I was first beginning my craft. Let me tell you. This journal is AMAZING. I personally use it as a Book of Shadows, but it can be used for anything. I stain the pages with coffee and tea before writing and it does NOT bleed through to the otherside. Not even markers or sharpies can get through that paper. I will say it's a bit expensive for my tastes. But it does give that hand-me-down aesthetic (especially after I have... stained it and dinged it up a little). I've added a lot of information (about the Greek deities, spell ingriedients, moon glyphs and phases, runes and casting, etc) - I HAVENT EVEN MADE IT TO THE MIDDLE OF THE JOURNAL YET. It will take a long time to fill it completely. But I can't stop researching and writing with it now. Will buy another one, just wish it was a bit cheaper. It's large, so don't expect this to go in your pocket or purse easily. Perhaps a backpack or messenger bag though if you need it with you. If you do mess with the pages a lot as I do, they will become warped and clasp very awkwardly causing an almost bowing effect. Place heavy objects ontop of the journal in hopes of weighing it down and straightening it though. And some of the stitching of the pages to the spine is a little loose or weak. But again, I am very rough with my book, so you may be totally fine.

Great book for writing! I write using fountain pens, for the most part, and needed another book to take notes in and this is doing the job. Not having many issues with feathering or bleeding while I write, but that's just from my experience. Different fountain pens will behave differently on different types of paper thicknesses and textures. The paper in this particular book is on the smooth side, so keep that in mind when getting this book. I write using a Scriveiner fountain pen, with an iridium nib, and use kon-peki ink; so, nothing terribly fancy, and it still takes a liking to the paper. I've been taking notes regularly in this book for a couple months now and have barely breeched fifteen pages into this book. It's rather large, so you'll find it cumbersome to take around with you without a pack or a bag to carry it in. I haven't had any problems with the slightly magnetic clamps on the side of the book. They certainly help keep the cover and the pages from flapping all over the place when in my pack while heading to campus. Some might, however, feel that these clamps get in the way when trying to move or shift the book around while writing in it. I've just gotten used to it, myself. Something to note: if you do get this book to write in public spaces, you WILL draw attention to yourself. I can't tell you how many times people have raised an eyebrow or two when I've pulled this book out of my Rucksack. Someone even openly remarked that they thought I was writing in a grimoire. It's just that conspicuous out in the open. All in all, I'm glad to have gotten this book. Part of me wants to get another one of these for fear that they might stop selling them before I've finished writing in this one. I'm that satisfied with it.

I bought this journal to use for my grimoire. The size is perfect (normal sheet of paper size), the paper thickness is perfect and doesn't bleed through when using a normal pen, and the clasps work with no problem. The problems started when I first got the book. I was so excited to work on it, I didn't notice there's a rather large gash in the front cover until after I had filled out a few pages. And it also doesn't have the red/tan ribbons to use as page markers, they're just missing. The cover is a little bit embossed, but the "depth" that is in the pictures is 98% from a really tricky shading job. Overall I LOVE this journal and would recommend that you buy it, I just had a few issues with the one I got. So give it a once over when you get it.

I purchased this notebook to write some of my memoirs. From the moment I opened the package I loved it. It's beautiful, sturdy and surprisingly heavy. I loved how it was large. I specifically wanted a large book. I have many 8.5 by 5 books and always felt "cramped" when I wrote in them. I also liked the two ribbons as well. I have one marking an incredibly special memory and the gold one is now used to mark my place within the book. The pages inside are thick and lined which I love. Ink does not bleed through. So you can use liquid ink, fountain pens, gel ink pens or any kind of saturated ink and not have to worry about it bleeding through. They are also an ivory color which suits the the over all design of the book. The texture on the cover is raised and I love the feel of it beneath my fingers. The only thing I had an issue with were the little "lock latches" on the side. They can be annoying when you are writing on a small space but it is not a deal breaker. Would I recommend this product? Yes. I just hope that they get more in stock because I want to buy another one!

I don’t usually spend this kind of money on a journal but this one is so beautiful and has such lovely details that it was worth the extra for me. In a previous review someone wrote that the cover is not embossed but is a printed trompe l’oeil- not true! The cover (and back) ARE embossed. Not with great depth, but they are. I’m posting a picture with raking light to hopefully show this to better effect. The two book marks are a nice touch as it the large pocket inside the back cover (perfect for all of my notes and pictures and little scraps of paper that I amass.)This is going to make a wonderful grimoire! Keep it in stock Amazon! This is going to be a repeat purchase, I think.

Ich war auf der Suche nach einer schönen Kladde. Und bin dann bei Paperblanks gelandet. Eigentlich wollte ich nicht so viel Geld ausgeben, aber na ja... Der Einband ist aus einem sehr stabilen und dicken Karton. Die Farbe ist blauschwarz, was die goldfarbenen Verzierungen wunderbar zur Geltung bringt. Zudem hat es Schattierungen auf dem Buchdeckel, die wie leichte Gebrauchsspuren aussehen und das Gefühl weckt, als hätte man ein altes Buch in der Hand. Das wird noch dadurch mit unterstützt, das man bei der Gestaltung der Blattränder auf eine entsprechend farblich passende Optik in einem vergilbten Goldton gesetzt hat. Meistens bleibt es dann aber bei der schönen Optik und innen erwarten einen strahlend weißes Schreibpapier mit dicken Linien, das dann den Gesamteindruck eintrübt. Nicht so hier: das Papier ist in einem Elfenbeinton gehalten, die Linien sind sehr fein und enden links und rechts jweils ca. 0,5 cm vor dem Seitenende. Zudem bekommt man hier eine sehr feine Papierqualität. Die Deckblätter am Anfang und Ende des Buchs sind goldfarben. Sehr schön auch die Falttasche am Ende des Buches: stabil und ausreichend Platz für Notizzettel. Wirkt aber auch sehr unauffällig, wenn man diese Falttasche nicht verwenden möchte. Toll finde ich die Seitenzahl. Mehr als 200 Seiten gibt es bei einer Kladde in DIN A 4 nur unliniert. Diese üppige Seitenzahl mit Linien und in einer schönen Optik und dazu noch hochwertiger Qualität zu finden ist wirklich ein Glückstreffer. Ich muss schon zugeben, das ich bei dem Preis schon erst mal Schlucken musste. Aber beim Auspacken merkte ich dann, das es die richtige Kaufentscheidung war und das man ein Produkt in den Händen hält, das wirklich jeden Cent wert ist.

Sin duda para los amantes de los cuadernos es una maravilla. Los acabados son excelentes y la manufactura y los materiales de primera. El único detalle es el embalaje no tiene la suficiente protección el producto llego con un ligero golpe nada grave pero sin duda es lamentable que un producto de estas características se estropeé por algo así.
