Easy to install and fit perfectly.
Perfect fit, easy to install, I was done in under five minutes. Restored my long arm ratchet to functionality. Parts look to be the same high quality as the worn and broken parts that a big cheater bar caused. Glad to have my ratchet back in service.

As expected. Works well with classic 5449, but not without issues
My 5449 is a hand-me-down, and I've had/used it since the early 80s. After decades of use, it slipped a few times on some high-torque, suspension work. I thought a tooth had broken on the anvil/drive wheel, but I opened it up and only found minor wear/rounding on the gear-teeth and pawl edges. I had no idea these repair kits were even available -- especially for a ratchet that is ~50 years old, but it turns out Stanley-Proto still makes a current version of the 5449, as well as repair kits. I waffled a bit before buying the kit, because for about $15 more, I could have bought a brand-new (j)5449. However, this is literally my favorite tool - mainly because it has tremendous nostalgic value for me, so I opted to rebuild it. This kit has everything you need to completely rebuild the ratchet -even the selector lever assembly. You'll need to supply whatever lube you prefer - I'm old-school, so I use Permatex engine assembly lube, where some may prefer synthetic grease. Major differences when compared to my older 5449 (see attached pic): 1) The drive wheel insertion shank (drive square you put a socket onto) is ~1/8" longer than the original. 2) The retention ball-bearing is ~1/8" further away from the face of the drive anvil. 3) There are some height/thickness/cambering variances on the drive anvil, but they only affect performance in respect to the insertion-shank differences above -- The wheel fits perfectly into the body of the ratchet. 4) The cover-plate screws come pre-brushed with a loctite-type material, where the original screws had serrated, conical washers for retention 5) Kit is not available in the original chrome or polished finishes Overall, this was a great purchase -- Don't hesitate to buy this kit. **Btw: ignore the wholly-inaccurate review from the dude who tried to use this on an obviously incorrect ratchet, and even posted evidence pics. Post-1st-use update: Due to the retention ball position and shaft-length variances I outlined above, ALL of my sockets, extensions, and adapters sit over 1/8" away from the anvil-wheel face (Most are older Proto, S-K Wayne, and Truecraft). I added a pic. I'm NOT a mechanical engineer, but I have some common sense: Although this rebuild kit is STOUT, and will likely outlive me -- a longer drive shank with attachments sitting farther away from the base decreases torsional shear strength. For my tools, this design also adds some annoying slop that was previously almost zero -If it were designed specifically for the older 5449 and not multiple ratchets, I'd probably change my rating to 3 stars because of this slop/fitment issue. However... it has still "resurrected" my favorite ratchet. A side-note: Do yourself and your ratchet a favor - Swap in your trusty breaker-bar for higher-torque work.

Worth repairing than buying a new one
Couldnโt believe it but I got my toque wrench working again!!! I only replaced the part that was broken.

Fits and functions
The kit fit well. The ratchet functions very well considering that it was from the 1960s. And had to remove a lot of rust. Worth the money because it turned a rusty piece of scrap metal into a useable tool!

Fairly easy to install
Over all okay with item , the selector was loose had to use vise grips to get it to stay on, screws that came with it were too long. But overall okay and wrench back in service. Would buy again.

Also works on 5449 Model
Despite the picture, this is the correct part and correct 5449RK repair kit. It fits the much more common 5449 model and, unlike the generic photo, it is actually for a male (-not- female) drive ratchet. I've seen this generic picture thrown around a lot, so I don't blame the seller. The parts are genuine Proto, high quality and worth picking up if you have one of these ratchets. They're getting harder to find and that means you'd better have a repair kit if you should ever manage to break it. Personally I don't think I could ever break this ratchet and may never need the repair kit, but the kit costs much less than trying to find a brand new, out of production ratchet somewhere, should the need arise. My advice? If you have one of the ratchets that this kit will fit into and you like it, buy a kit and keep it on hand just in case. Better to have and not need than to need and not have, right? Definitely worth the money!
