I was hoping the light would illuminate when calls came in and it DOES! We've used a vintage black rotary phone in the house for years and all my boys learned to use it. Now that we have another loud phone in the house (in a second location) we don’t miss calls! The packaging was good, it all snapped into place as it should. The bottom ports on the phone tell you which cord goes where (for the handset or wall jack). I personally wanted the black cord with the red phone and not a red cord, so this one is perfect. The buttons are easy and spaced well - just like when they were made years ago. This phone is a lot lighter than my black rotary phone because it doesn't have as many metal components. The boys think it's funny to hang up on telemarketers with this handset as compared to the $10 big box store phone that rests in the little craddel. Something about that classic handset hitting the stand that's super satisfying!!
