It’s used for cutting the belt and adding new holes if necessary.

Can you use your own belt buckle with this?

Yes u can if u are careful.remove the screw that attaches the buckle leather to the belt with a phillips head screw driver. there is a single stitch next to the screw cut that stitch and u can put any buckle u want on it and put the screw back in and u r good to go

I have 38 inches which size should I buy

I found with this belt if you order (let’s say a 34 waist). The belt fits to the first punch in the belt exactly 34 inches. If you like some wiggle room go a size or two up.
