A friend and cat breeder has told me that an alarming number of cats and dogs are developing diabetes as they age. A likely cause is the wheat, corn, and rice used as fillers in commercial food. Grains are especially bad for cats because they are carnivore obligates. That means they can only digest meat. Grain just raises their blood sugar. I found out the hard way when Denny, my 18-year-old cat, lost his appetite and started losing his balance. He was walking on the flat part of his hind feet and sliding across my desk like it was a piece of ice. After a frantic trip to the vet and some expensive blood work, the vet told me Denny had diabetes. (His blood glucose was more than 500. Normal range for a cat is 80 to 120.) The vet told me where to buy a cat/dog blood glucose meter and supplies and some general instructions for testing Denny's blood sugar and giving him insulin. (There are some good YouTube videos.) The vet also recommended some different canned and dry foods that might lower his blood sugar. I felt so guilty because I'd been giving Denny lots of treats (cat junk food) and canned food with gravy, his favorite. After some experimentation, I settled on this Wellness canned food at the best food for Denny. It has some grain-free gravy and he likes the flavor. I also feed him a Wellness grain free dry food. Since I switched his diet, Denny's blood sugar has been *in the normal range all but a few days early on*. I still test and log his blood sugar every morning -- just to be sure. Also, Denny has come to expect our morning ritual. (If you ever have to test a cat's blood sugar, start by massaging the cat's ear with a warm, damp cloth for two to three minutes. The cat relaxes and the heat makes it easier to draw blood.) At his age, I don't know how much longer Denny has, but I'll try to make his life as happy and healthy as it can be. So I'll buy him this food until he stops liking it or he develops another health problem.

It’s frustrating when humans make the decision to feed their cat a certain brand of canned food because they (the human) thinks it tastes good. Do they honestly think cats choose which brand of lizard or rat or pigeon to eat because of flavor? As pet parents a cat “liking” a food should be far down on the list of reasons to choose it. Saying you feed your cat something because it “loves” it is like saying you feed your two-year old baby nothing but cotton candy meals three times a day because she “loves” it. Using rigid guidelines set out for my cats by a veterinarian I choose this brand as one the better ones that meets my pet’s dietary needs. It does that well, but not perfectly. Unfortunately it still avoids listing specific numbers for carbohydrates, which should be near the top of a cat’s nutritional needs. High carbohydrates negatively impact the blood sugar level of cats and the leading cause of feline diabetes (which is why responsible humans should NEVER feed their cats dry cat kibble). And also unfortunately they like most other brands play loose with the words “grain free” because some of their ingredients in fact are just as poor of a choice for cats as grains. Despite all that, overall they are one of the better options and by the way, a side benefit is that my cats do like it. The only thing that pushes this brand down slightly is they are at the far upper end of the price scale, even when compared to other super-premium canned food blends.

I'm severely disabled and of course wonderful kids knew pets seemed to help people feel better and got them from a shelter, all shots, etc. Dixie is the shy, good luck if you see a flash, cat. Of course she'll actually fall off the bed if it's just Mom. Being in and out of the hospital non-stop and of course by now, observation skills to the max, I smelled an odor. I've smelled this order 3 times since I was a kid. Complete kidney blockage. 2 years old, know what's going on, both of us ended up in the hospital at the same time. The vet already gave the worst scenario. If he even lived through the surgery, he'd be incontinent, and most likely there monthly for fluids so she left a shunt in. I live on disability, not a dime left at the end of the month. A close friend and I spent non-stop hours researching this. 3 more infections within 6 months. The last taking most of his vision. Old basement, raw sewage liquid dripping down in dust and dirt, I'm thinking old washer. Too late. A close friend and I spent hours and hours online trying to figure out a diet for him. One site had Wellness in the top 10. Not cheap but not as bad as others. As much liquid as possible. I invented kitty soup first, lol. A spoonful of less expensive food mixed with tons of warm water. Oh yes, healthy Dixie likes his food too...So the monthly visit and IV was told to me in January. It's December now. I spend hours each month trying to find the lowest price but will not change his diet. I have a feeling he'll be going back soon for a visit by the way he's acting, sluggish, etc. I have a feeling a trip is coming up. FYI: I have the most fussy eaters, so I thought. They both love it. Vet bill? I'm still paying off family and friends from January. If something like this happens to you, Wellness has of course ingredients/percentages/high or low fiber. It's definitely worth a shot!

This seems to be working for my very picky eater. So far she seems to like it.

10.21.25~ Cats like the small cans. Twice in a row, once tuna and once turkey, expected small & got large cans. Tried to use large cans. One sniffed and walked away. This is the same cat who in a small can, would devour the whole thing. The other cat who eats everything, licked the gravy, picked at food and walked away. This only happens with the large cans. Just breaks my heart to waste money and food. Don't know how~ what should be the same food in any size can~ Isn't. The bites in the large can are chewy vs small can is tender. Maybe it's the leftover? Shelter will be happy with the donation. Sharing so if you try, grab a backup so you don't have to scramble for wet food like I did.

This food made our cats so sick. They were in bad condition, it could have been fatal if we didn’t act fast. Please read the email I sent to wellness: I am writing this email to inform you that your “Wellness Complete health Gravies Grain Free Canned Cat Food” made 5 out of 6 of our cats extremely sick. We ordered a brand new pack of 24 and opened two cans for dinner. That night, one of our cats began throwing up. She continues to have no appetite and vomit up white foam throughout the night and was extremely lethargic. We rushed her to the vet. They did blood work and X-rays. Soon after our second cat began to not eat, show signs of lethargy and vomit up white foam. He was also rushed to the ER and had blood work and X-rays done. He was in bad condition so they also did a sonogram. He needed to spend two nights in the ER. Our third cat and fourth cat all showed the same symptoms the following day. Lethargy, zero appetite and throwing up white foam. The only connection the vets could make was the new case of wellness food due to their bloodworm and nothing else in their diet changing. Three of our 5 sick cats needed to spend the night at the ER and our elder cat is STILL THERE because she is old and it’s harder for her to recover. I am aware there have been recalls in the past. We will never be purchasing this food again, however that is not the point of this email. The point of this email is to ensure you take this product off the shelves. Our cats were EXTREMELY sick and if we didn’t take them to the ER when we did, it could have been fatal. Thousands of dollars in vet bills later, most of our cats are on the mend. Our elder cat is still hospitalized

This food is a big hit with my cats. They eat every bit of it. It’s pricey but I’m not tossing anything in the trash and the cats are healthy.

Keep getting a few dented cans where I have to discard. Product is expensive and not getting full product is disappoint. Food is good though. My car likes it.

This was the only food I could get my cat to eat. It used to be made in the USA. Now it is made in Thailand and either the label is wrong or the formula was changed. It doesn't look or smell anything like the previous cans I have bought and my cat refuses to eat it now.
