How long will an open tube last before you must tose it?

I use 1/2 of a tube for each color. I usually color my hair every 8-10 weeks. As long as you keep air out of the tube - it lasts.

Is this all that's needed to color hair?

Well, you need to mix it with a developer. I use the Satin developer. Depending on your color, you use a 10, or 20 developer. I use the 20 for going blonde. I hope this helps. Of course, you can buy any developer, I just like this brand because it is not as harsh on your hair.
