Rainbow Goblins

This was one of my boys's favorite books when they were young. I got this as a giftfor my great nephew so am anxious for Christmas to see if he also loves it that much.

Every one of our 10 children (and now our grandchildren) was in awe of the artwork in this book. I deeply believe children should be exposed to the Best, not mediocre, art to develop their wonder, their sense of beauty. This book does that. The story is good, as well, but I can think of no other children's book that has such beautiful illustrations.

My parents had this when I was young and it was such a fun book to look at. I sent it to my son to read. He loves it. Colorful artwork, simple.

I have an original 1978 version of this book and it is highly loved and not in the best shape (top half of photos). What was always so beautiful about the book was the contrast of bright colors and deep darks. The reprint has taken a lot of liberties with overall increasing the brightness and reducing the contrast. The effect has made color transition very abrasive and many colors have been completely lost on the pages. The increased brightness detracts from the moody feel of the original. Also the artistic placement and fonts used in the original are changed almost completely, again taking from the artists' original design. This is a poor reprint, but I have seen worse.
