Can this cable be used to pull a fiber optic cable from a junction box outside the garage to the cable box on the second floor of the house?

Accepted Answer

Yes - if  the distance is less than 50' and the either fiberoptic cable box being usually either an exterior/outdoors orange/red 2" round PVC tube  with two black lines going in the longitudinal direction or any other interior fiber optic cable box provided these cable boxes are not exposed to any wild and crazy 90-degree turns that the running rod justy  cant form after and take. In the ATTER CASE YOU MIGHT HAVE LUCK TO USE the running rod to run a nylon string or a piece of fishing nylon string you can subsequently use tom run the fiber optic cable with provided it is eithewr pealed from its 1

I was looking for a product to attach a small wifi camera to for inspections of roofs and such. Will this bend with too many poles attached?

Accepted Answer

These are poor at pushing anything except a thin string.  But once you get that string in place use the string to pull something a little bigger and and then pull something even bigger and eventually as big as you need.  These are very useful for applications where nothing else will do.
However, an alternative solution for pushing when there are obstacles you need to go around is 1/2 inch 8 or 10 foot PVC pipes with some threaded ends glued on. I created 8 such pipes.  On one I sawed off about a foot and put a 45 degree and glued the sawed off piece back on.  I pushed that pipe first.  Then I screwed on the next pipe.  Pushed more.  As the front of the pipe got hung on an obstacle I rotated it so the 45 degree piece was pointing around the obstacle.  I pushed and it kinda popped around.  Kept pushing and adding more pipe.  Finally had pushed the entire 65 foot span.  The pipe could have dragged the line but my plan was for it to come out at the other end which was easily accessible.  I tied on a 140 ft nylon rope to a convenient 2x4 and the other end to the pipe.  And pulled the whole pipe back out pulling the rope with it. I tied off the rope at my end. The rope was double the length of the span. It is now a permanent installation. So I can pull the slack of the rope to either end.  Attach a wire and pull the slack back. Over the years I have pulled about 10 wires with that rope. It's starting to tangle with the 10 wires so it's time to pull the rope out and use my pipes to run it again.  The nylon rope I used could pull 3 wire romex if needed but I have mostly pulled phone and ethernet cables.  As for going that length and then drilling a hole I suggest a trained snake.
