How to use screws for installation?

To install the screw cap, use an electric drill on the wall where the transmitter needs to be installed, drill the hole and install the screw cap. Attach the back panel to the wall and fix it with screws. Then fix the back plate of the transmitter to the wall and buckle the transmitter to the back plate to complete.

What does self powered mean. How does that work exactly?

it will generate electricity by itself and send a stable signal to the receiver. With this self-powered doorbell, you will no longer worry about frequent battery replacement. When you press the button, the transmitter is powered like a perpetual motion machine, freeing you from the trouble of frequent battery replacement. Button life can reach 200,000 times, you can use it for a long long time.

Will this work through a metal door?

I would think so, unless the entire house is metal clad. It mounts on the wall near the door, and the signal does not (usually) go through the door itself. Ours goes through concrete block to the receiver unit with no problem. Range is based on usual building materials, i.e., block, wood, wall board, etc.
