While less bulky than the other book, this field guide omits comments about the etymology for the common and scientific names of each cetacean species. In particular, the fact that Balaenoptera ricei was originally identified as Balaenoptera edeni before genetic and morphological analysis found it to be a distinct species (I remember that the Omura's whale was once considered a pygmy form of the Eden's/Bryde's Whale before being recognized as a new species). Years ago I saw several beaked whales about 40 miles off Baja California's Magdalena Bay. I tried to identify the species, but failed to do so. This remarkable book compares the individuals in this mysterious family of marine mammals. If you enjoy pelagic birding or whale watch trips, buy this fascinating book.

Type and text way to small. Small print makes it hard to read. Informative. But disappointing.

Sehr gutes Fachbuch für Bestimmung
Ein sehr guter Guide für Wale und Delfine (Cetacea), mit vielen guten Zeichnungen. Eines der besten, ggf das beste dieser Art. Leider fehlen die Robbenartigen, und auch reale Fotos. Viele gute Infos zu Verbreitung , Auftauchsequenzen usw. Sehr gut fürs Bestimmen auf See.

Guia completo e de qualidade!
O livro é de excelente qualidade, apresenta todas as espécies de baleias, golfinhos e afins. As ilustrações são de boa qualidade, acompanhadas de descrições detalhadas de cada espécie. Recomendo a todos os biólogos e ambientalistas no reconhecimento das espécies de cetáceos. Só tenho algo a reclamar da primeira compra do livro, simplesmente ao chegar no Brasil, em São Bernardo do Campo (SP), quando o livro foi transferido para transportadora que faria a entrega em casa, o livro foi furtado, assim fica a reclamação para a Amazon se guarnecer de transportadoras confiáveis!! Inicialmente fiquei bem insatisfeito com a primeira compra e quase desisti da segunda tentativa!
