She loved the book and requested it every day. I did not tell her that _she_ grumbled too much, I just told her I found this book and it looks interesting. I think what she liked best about the book was the idea that she is not captive to her thoughts but can change them and begin to critique her own mind. The book has very approachable concepts for kids and my daughter began to use them immediately, explaining her anger at her brother to me by using the concepts from the book. My 10 yo even got interested and I think it would be good for her too. If you're thinking about it, go ahead and buy it, you won't regret it.

excellent - a must read to all kids
This book has helped my son soooo much! It is a book every child (adults too) should read, because all of us think negative from time to time, more or less. The sum of the lesson is that we should try to overcome our problema instead of complaint about them. And once problem is solved, donโt keep thinking about it, or talking about it and worrying about it. Just move on and donโt look back. That will make you a happier person, as well as more productive.

This book is so great for that
I am a homeschool mom and decided to focus on emotional health this year for my kids' Health subject. So far we had just been discussing feelings and recognizing and acknowledging them but I wanted to dive deeper to help my kids deal with their feelings/emotional issues as well. This book is so great for that. This is a book that a child could read to themselves and do the exercises alone but I chose to read it with all my kids together. I love the analogy of life as an obstacle course and the hurdles in life are the problems or challenges kids (and even grown-ups) have. I love how it encourages and guides kids on how to not just solve a problem but learn to get past it as well. It has been a great learning experience for my kids and for me. However, I will say, for my pre-teen and my ADHD child, they have a harder time letting go of the habit of grumbling and have added these exercises to their lists of complaints. But I'm working with them on it and I still think it's a great, easy-to-follow book and would recommend it to any parent.

Great resource
Got this for my emotional 6 year old who had fun with most of the activities. She would draw in spots instead of writing answers, and we went through the book together. It was great at teaching about negativity, "hurdles", and choosing to overcome them. It became difficult as it doesn't offer the best coping strategies, but really is meant to be generated by the kids doing the activity. This is good because the strategies need to be self created in order to work.

Great cognitive therapy based book
Just from the intro. written to the parents, I was impressed. It made me feel more at ease about some of my son's issues. I am a former school counselor and I thought the layout of the book was great and it kept my 6 year old's attention (we would do a chapter a night each night before nights out). It gives some great concepts that plant seeds in a child's mind about what is going on when they are negative - even if they can't immediately put them to use. This is a wonderful series - we have tried three of the books.

For your kiddo that gets stuck in negative thinking
Got this workbook for my 6 year daughter who lately has been making comments like โIโm just unluckyโ and feeling negative. Her father has OCD and catastrophizes a lot - so wanted to get a head start if my daughter has trouble overcoming negative thoughts.

Wow a great tool
Wow a great tool - I have a son that was very down on himself and about situations in general. He was the ultimate in grumbler. In fact when I got this book out he was grumbling but by the end of the book there was a totally different outlook. We were at the beginning of summer vacation and I didn't want to spend the summer dealing with a sour puss the whole time so I thought, "what will it hurt". I am SO GLAD I made the purchase. We were able to sit down the two of us or with mom too and go over a lesson every few days. Each lesson had a great theme and was relate-able to a youngster in such a way they could put themselves in the situation as well as allowed us to do the same. Then as things came up we could calmly bring the lesson up and you could see the light bulb go off in his head - it clicked. So by the time we finished it was like we have a new person able to enjoy the summer again. My wife and I were so impressed with it that we are looking at some of the other ones for the other kids too.

Amazing Amazing Amazing!
This book needs more than 5 stars. Itโs so simple, but so powerful. My son and I would read a few chapters each night and talk through the questions and activities. I couldnโt recommend it more.

Boughy on recommendation of my childs counselor and am so glad we did. Has really helped us to help him understand his emotions and anxiety. I definitely recommend.

It is a cut book to read to children or have them read when they are just in a bad mood.

My son is 9, gifted, grumbling about me buying this book and grumbling about having to read it. Even so, I have to say he was drawn into it almost immediately. The book uses really clear metaphors that are easy to go back to when confronted with a new problem. Especially loved the image of the boy who stands in front of a hurdle and shouts at it to move away. Now it's easy for me to refer to this image and tell him "don't be that boy!". The information in the book really works on several levels and gives useful tips and hints for the parents of grumblers as well. Regarding the American words in it that some parents complained about, I have to say that my son thought it was cool to read an American book for once. All in all, highly recommended.
