Exactly when is needed for a headless home server
Using this on my windows based home server. Needed a dummy plug for the HDMI output to simulate the monitor signal so the remote desktop software I use would work correctly. This has been doing its job wonderfully for almost 18 months now. Absolutely worth the cost as it completely eliminated my remote connectivity issues.

Works as advertised
Plug it into an HDMI port, the computer thinks you plugged in an HDMI monitor and behaves accordingly. Odds are if you're in the market for one of these you know exactly what you're getting, but just on the off chance someone is new here, this doesn't actually produce a display. It just tricks your computer into thinking you have a monitor connected, to keep your GPU active even when you're not using the machine, or to generate additional virtual displays in VR, etc.

Fixed a laptop!
I had a friend give me a laptop with a screen that did not work. I'm blind so I use a screen reader on the computer and I noticed certain things did not work properly. So I purchased this adapter hoping I would be able to get the graphics card to work and solve the issues and it did. I was so thankful it did. :)

A Perfect Liar
I run a home web server with no monitor, and access it via VNC. When restarting, I'd have to plug it into a monitor or it would default to super low resolution and run at a snail pace. This magnificent little liar, however, has the computer convinced there a high resolution monitor attached to it, so VNC works like normal, delivering a high resolution screen at full speed. Easily worth the money.

For my laptop
I need to remotely access my laptop that I'm using as a plex server. I want the lid for the laptop closed while running, but when it's closed i get a blank screen when i remote in via VNC. This dongle worked to trick the laptop into thinking there is an external monitor connected, thus fixing my blank screen issue. This is the easiest and cheapest fix and it just worked. I love when stuff just works
