These are a bit pricey, but they are the best way to take additional fuel during my wheeling trips (I use a spare tire carrier by Rock Slide Engineering). I bought them specifically for a 3 day wheeling trip deep in the Panama Jungle. A lot of shaking going on, and no spills. And the fit nicely in the spare tire rack without hitting the body of the Jeep. As far as ease of use goes, they have good things and bad things; the good is how they have the filter thing set up, so that if you are carrying them outside, and have them locked in, it would be hard to syphon the gas out of them without finding a way to unlock the rack; the down comes mainly from the spout. I just hate the type of safety spout you need to pull in for it to start letting gas through. I miss the old type where you just poured! These were a pain to get the gas into the jeep (especially considering where the Jeep YJ has the gas fill port!). I had to bend over backwards to get the fuel to the Jeep. But overall, I am happy with the purchase. In fact, I plan to purchase 2 water tanks now to have the water outside for shorter trips (leaving more room for gear inside).

This review evaluates the “RX-2G Gasoline Pack” made by RotopaX. The product was shipped with no excessive or wasteful packaging, snugly in a box. What’s in the box: One (1) RX-2G gasoline pack and an instruction sheet. First impressions: Rugged and built to last. This 2-gallon flat-pack Jerry can is built from rugged high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with a 3-layer thick molding process; they are noticeably thicker than a standard plastic Jerry can. The nozzle and cap are well sealed with no leaks and have an anti-loose mechanism. PROTIP: Always rinse out a plastic fuel can with water before using it for the first time; this will clean out any debris from the manufacturing process and prevent it from being ingested by your engine. The nozzle and screw cap are proprietary and replacement ones need to be purchased from RotopaX. The thread on those caps will not accept a standard threaded cap. The RotopaX mount is not included and must be bought separately. After 30 years of lugging/balancing sloshing, leaking conventional gas cans with a plethora of bungee cords, I decided to bite the bullet and pull my wallet. Now I understand why they are expensive and why they are worth every penny. The RotopaX gasoline mounted beautifully on my Quad; I liked the result so much that I ordered another to mount symmetrically on the other side. Long-term durability will have to be seen over the next 12 months during some remote hunting trips in the rugged terrain of northern Ontario Canada. Therefore I am going to monitor this product over the next 12 months of use and revise my review should problems arise. Cost-effectiveness and value: In life, it is commonly said that you get what you pay for – and this is one of those products. Overall I am very satisfied with the product; it is versatile, well-made, and built to last. At a current price of $132.49, while on the expensive side, I feel that this product is priced fairly for the quality and functionality delivered. Don’t get fooled by the knock-off “replica” cans at ½ the price, they are thin leaking garbage. In summary: The “RX-2G Gasoline Pack” made by RotopaX is a well-made product that is built to last. It provides safe and convenient mobile storage of fuel for those long offroad trips. I would recommend this product without reservation. Pros 👍: ✔ North American made – in the USA. ✔ High quality, rugged, well-made product. ✔ Rugged high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with a 3-layer thick molding process. ✔ Mounts securely and dismounts easily. ✔ Fair price point considering the quality and functionality. Cons👎: ✘ Expensive but well made. ✘ Mount is not included and must be bought separately for about $69. You can save about $25 by buying a solid METAL off-brand mount that is an identical replica if you wish. Just don’t buy the knock-off cans, they are garbage.
