Ah the finest but with caveats. If you eat a jar you will have the runs and hypertension too. (Don't do that it's dangerous) If you can exercise some proper impulse control and only return to the jar for little top ups you will be rewarded each time with a proper liquorice experience. Proper serious liquorice this is, string in taste, naturally sweet and a bit hard to begin with until you crunch into it or let the enzymes in your mouth do the work, but I have no patience with liquorice because it's delicious so crunch crunch. Will make your tooth black

Used for baking, making liquorice syrup à la Nigella. Works well, worth the effort.

If you love liquorice - this is it! The delicious flavour stays with you for hours after you have finished some of the pastilles.

Could be a bit stronger in taste. Very good price. Pellets are a nice size.

Hard, tasty and easy , quick snack to suck on.

Right, well, firstly these licorice pellets do NOT come in a tin as the product page says, but come in a plastic pot with a plastic lid. The Amazon paper mailing bag was undamaged, as was the paper strip, indicating that the plastic jar had not been opened. However, the jar lid was cracked (see photo) and the pellets had melted together into a solid block. (See photo.) The jar had clearly been stored upside-down, as the 'block' of licorice pellets was flat on top as it had contacted the lid, and had space at the bottom of the jar. (See photo.) I have bought licorice pellets many times. I find them excellent for a sore throat. I developed a heavy cold over the weekend, and had run out, hence ordering them. I normally buy other brands (Amarelli or else Nipits) but the Amarelli was unavailable and the Nipits would have taken a few days extra to arrive, and I wanted to 'treat' my sore throat ASAP. So, I know very well what happens to pure licorice pellets when they are left out of the packet. They absorb moisture very readily and become sticky. (Rather like instant coffee granules spilt onto a kitchen counter.) I guess it's possible that these pellets actually melted in some blisteringly hot warehouse, but I think it more likely that the cracked lid allowed moist air in which stuck them all together. I phoned Amazon support and they arranged a refund. They didn't want the item sent back and said i could keep it. At that point I 'chiseled' out a few lumps with a sharp knife to taste. I'm glad I did because in fact, as at least one other reviewer has said, the texture was rather 'gritty' and they did not have much taste. Now, to be fair, I have a heavy cold, so it's possible that my sense of taste is affected, but I don't think so. I can taste other things OK. And the cold would not make the texture 'gritty'. It's kind of odd, because most reviewers say they are strong tasting and smooth in texture. It was just one review I read that said they were rather tasteless and 'gritty'. And is the gritty texture and weak taste related to being melted together into a block. Somehow I doubt it. Anyway, I won't be buying this brand again. I'll stick with the Amarelli and the Nipits. For a cold or sore throat the best ones are actually the Simpkins Nipits pellets with licorice and menthol.

The best value for money for liquorice lovers on amazon.

A nice container and well presented. May be fine for more modern times and those who find the full bodied, intense flavour and ultra smooth texture of genuine, past experiences of hard Black Italian liquorice too strong. However, both the rougher, gritty texture and the limited, diluted/diminished flavour came as an unwelcome surprise. NOT REFUNDABLE, UNSURPRISING! The first taste is an immediate disappointment, requiring return by those mislead by the description of the item! The real hard Black liquorice, bites are very, very smooth in texture and have a full intensity of undiluted, liquorice flavour, which continues in intensity in the mouth until it's gone. Almost an acquired taste! According to the ingredients, only pure liquorice is listed. This is the same as the the genuine, full bodied original. However this version tastes quite watered down, which will presumably be fine for those who find the original too strong. Only two stars 1. because of the misleading aspect of the presentation; genuine? possibly, but NOT the same as the original in depth of flavour, follow up intensity or smoothness of each pellet/nugget : 2. Inability to return the full jar, with the exception of a single pellet, although I could have wrapped that up separately and included it too. A single, brief taste was enough. Update, I've been trying these pellets off and on for the last month, but have given up as they are so unsatisfactory, irritating on the tongue and disappointing, 4 of these don't compare with a single genuine Pellet bought in Italy. Look for the smooth texture and High gloss. The item below is genuine in both looks and flavour and although a little costly, they are much cheaper than going to Italy for them. AMARELLI, SOEZZATA, 100gm in a cardboard Packet or. AMARELLI, 'Liquouirizia di Calabria' in a TIN 40gm, give real satisfaction of a genuine, full flavoured, smooth Italian hard liquorice experience. These are Well worth buying. A little costly but not too bad one packet lasts and the experience is well worth the money. Just bought some as a present for my Italian friend, who is delighted to have these genuine, little bites of home.

Reine Lakritz schmeckt zwar ein wenig süß, ist aber eher ein ungefährliches naturheilkundliches Medikament als eine Süßigkeit. Es besänftigt bei Hustenreiz den gereizten Hals. Im Gegensatz zu gezuckerter Lakritz löst es bei mir kein Suchtverhalten aus. Wenn ich also ein kleines Stückchen der Lakritz - die durchaus nach Lakritz schmeckt - esse ist daher nicht am gleichen Tag die ganze Packung leer sondern es bleibt für geraume Zeit bei dem einen Stück.
