Will this house be ok in a heavy rainstorm? Would it need to be sealed? I'm considering it for a feral cat to protect him from storms.

Is this God for mutiple ferral cats in snow ?

If they are friendly with eachother, I would say 4 cats will fit, maybe more if they snuggle. 2 on bottom level and 1 cat each the 2nd & 3rd level. I loaded mine with cat beds & fleece blankets, and also hung fleece around the outside to cut down on the draft. I Also put snugglesafe disc's (safe heating discs that you microwave). I didn't get snow but Temps down to about 25 deg f. My outdoor cats liked it, I'd call them strays not necessarily feral. Unless you get one that's specifically insulated, they are all made this way, and I think you could make this one work.

How thick are these wood panels? I note this enclosure is for inside and outside use? Weatherproof?

Hi, the thickness of wood panels in main frame is approximately 9mm. and Asphalt eave can be hold up to light weather conditions.

Does the top opens up?

No the top does not open but the top glass door that latches and faces you opens and that is where you enter to clean or change out any bedding, etc. :)
