Do these use same speakers as Porta Pros?

Officially, I have never seen Koss admit that Kph40 and Porta Pros have the same driver. But having both, I tested them on a Steely Dan song "Lunch with Gina" and I can't tell any difference in the sound. So I think it comes to which head band you prefer, the folding Porta Pros or the single band 40.

Where can you buy a balanced cable for the KPH40 utility headphones?

Just got mine KPH40 and checked the cable. It seems that 2.5mm TRRS socket is indeed balanced, but configured in 3.5mm standard (T: R+, R: L+, R: L-, S: R-). So it's NOT compatible with 2.5mm balanced output (like FIIO BTR5) using "straight" cable. You would have to use crossed cable for this setup (haven't found one yet), or use device with 3.5mm balanced standard.

Does anyone know when these will be back in stock? I would love to get a pair! :-)

I Believe these are Quite available now (compared when 1st introduced !) either through Amazon- or Koss Factory Direct.

Koss should make a bluetooth ‘pendant’ for the utility series. that would be the icing. does any know of a bluetooth receiver with 2.5 mm termination?

There are none. The problem here is you need to convert the 2.5mm trrs configuration with a wire. You can get any wire which fits hd598 either balanced or unbalanced. Then only connect to a Bluetooth pendant.
