Why do I have to push the button on top of the printer to get it to actually PRINT the job?

You may want to check the page set up. You can determine the default tray, if it is set to "Manual Feed" you will need to push the button on the printer. If it's set to "Auto Tray 1" it will print without pressing the button. I hope this helps!
