My son is 2 years old (and one month!) and 36 inches tall. Will this be too hard for him to handle/ push?

No. Its really ment for kids two years old when I ordered it I thought it would be ok for a 6 year old but it come much smaller. Its perfect for a 2 yr old

Is this small enough for a housewarming gift - to put a bottle of Champagne in ? or did anyone find a better one that would work well?

It might work. The base of the bed is about a foot wide and maybe 15-18 inches long. As I remember it. The sides are maybe 6 inches high.

My 3 yr old grandson is tall for his age and this wheelbarrow is just about right for him. If your 5 yr old isn't too tall it would probably work. It's a really nice, well made toy.

What kind of tire Air or solid plastic?

This was a gift to grandkids living in northern state and not stored indoors. The tires are definitely not plastic but rubber. I don’t remember seeing an inflation tube on them. It’s a great toy.
