Check the edition!!
I am taking a class that required this manual for calculations. I did not notice the edition because I was thinking it would be the latest one( because the picture son the cover) and when a received it, the book was an older edition so it did not work for my class.

I was worried about what version I was ordering. ...
I was worried about what version I was ordering. The pictures shows Eighth Edition. The title says Eighth Edition Version 2.5. Didn't want to pay $150 for a book that was already outdated. The book from @ Home Prep Books and Training is Version 2.5. ISBN # 978-1-892765-25-3.As far as content, it seems to unlock the how-to for a Manual J calculation - which is what I wanted. Helped me figure out software I had purchased has errors regarding windows and infiltration.

Great Resource
An excellent reference for those interested in understanding the impact building materials choices have on HVAC system sizing. Definitely worth the money.I used it (hard copy) in conjunction with ACCA's MJ8 spreadsheets. Doing that allows you to work with finer precision than third party software programs allow for. The latter compiled tools are of course probably better if you are totally new to Manual J concepts.

Manual J 8th edition, full has everything you need to do Manual J
This book has everything needed to do a manual J. I have no AC experience, especially for calculating size of system and air flow into each room, but by reading through this book and working with a spreadsheet, I was able to adequately perform a Manual J analysis sufficient to determine that my AC system is working properly, is sized properly, and the air flow in most of the rooms in the house is sufficient. The calculations using a spreadsheet allowed me to vary factors such as max design temperatures to show me why my system was not cooling as I thought is should in 98 F temperatures. I was also able to play with different levels of insulation in the attic to see what the best R value is for the money. It is easy to see the diminshing return on investment as the R value gets sufficiently high. What I did not care for in this book is the way it is organized. There are a number of things that are repeated over and over, chapter to chapter that are relatively easy to grasp, and then some very important items are mentioned once or twice and somewhat hidden. Also, nomenclature is not deffined very well and used in some cases without prior definition as far as I can remember. The book could be reduced many pages and be easier to follow if a lot of the simple redundancy is removed, and important items are presented more often and clearly.

HVAC Pros Only
This is a very technical book that is best avoided by the DIYer. It is designed for HVAC professionals and those planning on entering the trade.I would also recommend it for general contractors and architects that need to know something about working with and around HVAC. Its easier for a contractor to coordinate HVAC and plumbing if the needs of both trades are understood (at least a little).

Watch the series number!
Exactly what I needed for class. There is a newer version so make sure you don’t need the newest version.

Excellent Manual but not complete when purchased from Amazon
I purchased this manual to begin learning the Manual J process only to find that this product was not new when ordered and did not ship with the associated CD containing pertinent information for the learning process. The manuals I received were all used when I thought I would be receiving new products.
