This is much stiffer and harder hitting than I had initially desired but is very fun when enjoying some activities that aren't riding horses if you know what I mean. ;) I would give it 4* if it was a little less stiff so it didn't quite hit as hard, or maybe I don't know my own strength? Still fun as all get out.

Oooooh boy these are niiiiice. Okay, the ‘why’ aside of getting them, allow me to share I’ve known about whips ever since I was a kid. My English riding instructor insisted crop whips be used for horses. Being into dressage and good communication with your horse, I never found this to be needed. Get to know your horse and let him/her know you and you’re golden. Minus the occasional mischievous mood they get into. Because let’s face it - all horses know how to be just like naughty children in fuzzy suits. In this instance, I ordered these whips for a completely different reason (wife she needs me to take out the trash faster - jk). But the ‘why’ of getting them aside, I was very happily surprised at the quality of these whips. They are really nice. Great quality leather, well wrapped and made grips and beautiful stitch work. Last time I saw ones like these was when I visited an equine riding school in France. These would definitely not look out of place there. I didn't have any experience with either a crop or a horse whip, but I found these are pretty mild (if not applied too hard) and should be fun if this is something you want to explore. The yardstick in the photo is not included--it is just there for size. However, if you like both of these...you just might also enjoy a yardstick. Obviously, if you are doing this with another person, you need to have some discussion before jumping right in. I'd recommend a little practice on yourself before including your partner. A safe word, or series of safe words, is recommended, for example, "green" (feels good -- keep it at that level), "yellow" (don't go any harder), "red" (stop right now). Start at low intensity and gradually increase the intensity if your partner asks you to. Don't do anything without first discussing it with your partner. These can be used gently with very little pain and still have some interesting sound effects. Of course, they can be quite stingy if firmly applied.
