Does this one also prevent mildew? i know there is a combi mildew-free version, so i wasn't sure if they now add a mildew protectant to this.

I use it on my bridle and have never had a problem with mildew. I’m not certain if it is because I keep it clean or because this product retards mildew, but I do know this is a very good product.

I have an older bottle of this. Smells a bit like rubbing alcohol. Is this the normal smell?

Yes. New bottles smell like that also. Best leather cleaner made.

Do you leave it on or wipe it off after so many minutes?

i just wipe it on with a small circular tack sponge. then i have a dry cloth to get any residual dirt off. really good for expensive fine soft leathers, wont damage stitching. i have a prestige jumper saddle and an equipe dressage saddle. use on both. once and awhile i use the effax balsam after as I am in a dry climate

Do I need to use leather soap before this using product?

No need to soap first, this cleans the leather. I follow up with conditioner. I love this stuff, by the way. In combination with the Effax leather conditioner, my tack has never looked or felt better. I am a fan.
