I have an old teenage rebellion heavy metal motorcycle style black leather jacket that for almost 30 years now that has spent many years in my closet now because of its sorry condition. Granted, I treated this jacket horribly in my youth. It had been through everything and it looked like it with a lot of light grey wear, scuffs, scrapes and even cuts. It’s seen extreme hot and cold, been used as a pillow and blanket many times, had many various drinks spilled on it, was rained on, sweat in, slept in, sat on, thrown around on sand, dirt, mud and water. Youname it and it’s been there, done that. And after all of that, I never, ever cleaned it or treated it. I pulled it out a couple years ago to wear it and I couldn’t. It was too stiff to wear comfortably so I put it back in the closet. The best words to describe it were stiff, dry and crunchy. I can across Obenauf’s leather oil here a couple months back and decided to give it a try. I tell you, when I first started to apply the oil with the applicator, my jacket absorbed it faster than a hot desert does with a sprinkle of water. I noticed that the treated parts immediately started to loosen up. I originally planned to apply one coat but it was disappearing so fast that I just kept making my way around and didn’t stop applying until the wet look didn’t instantly disappear anymore. I ended up using more than half the bottle as the jacket didn’t stop drinking up till that point. The end result was a complete transformation. What began as a stiff and dry old jacket shortly became a soft, pliable and truly restored looking and feeling leather jacket. And it even has a newer leather smell to it. The most miraculous result came from an 4 inch square on the back shoulder that had long ago faded to a light grey/brown. I never understood why that part only changed color so drastically but it did and I figured I’d have to dye it again if I wanted to return it to its original black. I didn’t think this oil would do anything but soften that part of the jacket. When applied to that faded square, it instantly turned it black. I thought it was just wet and that it would lighten up as it dried but it didn’t and it hasn’t. It’s black again and you’d never even know where that faded patch was anymore. Incredible! I just wish I had taken a before picture but I had no idea this would be the result. The rest of the jacket also looks a much darker and deeper black like it used to. In fact, it hasn’t looked or felt this good since those first year after I broke it in. I had no idea a jacket in the condition mine was in could ever be restored like this from a simple oil treatment. I can’t recommend Obenauf’s Leather Oil enough. If it could transform my old and abused jacket like it did, I don’t think there’s much it can’t do. I’ll be using this for any other present and future leather products from now on. Get it if you need it. It really works.

I wish I would have taken before & after pictures!!! This product is the only Leather cleaner and conditioner you'll ever need! After reading though many many reviews on conditioners, I felt this is it. I'm so glad I did. I bought this to condition my 10 month old (barely worn over winter months) $600 leather cognac color bomber jacket. I took it out of the closet about a week ago to wear as the weather here on Long Island is getting chilly at night. It felt rough, corse, brittle and kinda like if I wore it, it would crack!!! Ugh I was very upset! I ordered this oil and applied it Saturday evening. Yes it darkened the color somewhat however 48 hours later, today the original color is back. It's easy to apply and quick but me being a perfectionist, it took a little under an hour as I made sure every stitch and corner drank in some of this fine product. When I finished Saturday applying it, the magical transformation occurred instantly. The leather felt smooth, clean and gave it a sexy shimmer-shine look. This transformed my jacket into a several thousand dollar jacket. Not only did it improve the quality of it, it also intensified the great leather smell that fresh leather endures. What more can I say! I will be buying more of this to apply to my leather couches and also shoes. My jacket looks, feels and smells like it cost $5000.00. I got some of this when it was a lightning deal to try on the 43 year old leather seats in my Series 1 Jag XJ6. Previously I swore by Leatherique and I still think the system is great for cleaning leather but I was never really happy with the results it had on my ancient interior as far as softening is concerned. Leatherique's system did a great job of removing the old, loose color and it was a little softer but the rear seat was never that soft and I did it at least 3 times - including applying the conditioner on a hot summer day and closing up the car to let it bake in as they suggest. Well I got the larger bottle of Obenaufs and used most of it on the rear seat. Keep in mind that the seat was already clean thanks to Pristine Clean so I skipped the cleaning step. All I did was apply a generous coat and massage it in. Within a few minutes it was completely soaked in. I just kept doing that - applying, letting it soak in and reapplying for days until the bottle was gone. At first I thought it might just be evaporating but the little bit I got on the vinyl areas of the interior never disappeared - just layed on top of the vinyl. So now that rear seat is softer than it ever was using Leatherique... this is hard to explain but it even looks 'plumper' and more hydrated. And it also darkened the blue leather - which was really tired looking - even in the areas where the Leatherique had removed most of the color. I'm truly surprised at how well this stuff worked and I've been driving/restoring ancient cars for my entire life. I intend to keep applying the Obenaufs until the seat won't accept any more. And the bonus: The interior smells AMAZING!! I've always liked how Leatherique smelled but it doesn't really smell like leather. With the Obenaufs the interior of my nearly half-a-century-old car smells like NEW LEATHER!!! I don't know if it's the Obenauf's or the old leather hides coming back from their old, dry, neglected dormant state. Whatever it is, I can't get enough of it. I read a couple reviews before I bought it saying that it smelled bad - those people must need to see an ear, nose and throat man or they don't like the smell of leather. To sum up, I'd still suggest giving your leather interior a good cleaning and initial conditioning with Leatherique but finish it up with Obenauf's. I wish it came in a larger bottle cause I have 4 old cars with leather interiors that are gonna get the treatment. Personally I don't care in the slightest that the Obenauf's darkens the leather (it does). I think that's a good thing actually. Oh yeah.. it also worked really well on my leather Redback boots but cars is more important than boots so yeah.... if you have a few drops leftover from doing an interior let the boots have some.

This review is for the 8oz. bottle of Obenauf's Leather Oil. I had read all of the raving reviews and decided to try it myself. I purchased it for two leather bomber jackets. The product worked better than I imagined. The first jacket was a 20+ year old leather bomber jacket that was very dried out. The leather was stiff and very light in color due to age. I used about 1/4 of the bottle using the included applicator. The oil soaked in thoroughly and was dry to the touch in two days. Just for comparison, I originally did one sleeve with Obenauf's and the other with Neatsfoot Oil. Both sleeves pretty much the same after a day or so. However, after a week, the Obenauf treated sleeve was noticeably softer and more pliable. I ended up doing the other sleeve and the entire jacket again with Obenauf's. The result was dramatic. It was like getting a new jacket. The leather is much darker in color (I wanted that) and feel soft. It also repels water (in all fairness, any oil would cause that). So, I did my other bomber jacket. This one was a lot newer and really didn't need that much work. I treated it the same as the other jacket, but this one did not absorb the oil. In fact, it pretty much stayed wet on the surface for a couple of days. I wiped it down and noticed that the jacked appeared slightly more pliable. It worked, just not as well on the newer jacket. For the price, the Obenauf's Leather Oil is great deal. I highly recommend it for restoring and protecting a smooth leather jacket.

This stuff is the bomb. I have a 35 year old leather jacket that cannot be replaced owing to its design. It is super macho and tough looking. Characteristics that are out of style now in this age of tamping masculinity down. It was dry, cracked and papery and I was considering throwing it away. Hadn't worn it in years. But since I liked it so much, I decided to give this a try. IT WORKED FANTASTICALLY. The leather is soft and supple now. Looks great. Smells like leather again instead of old mold. Caveat emptor, the leather will be darker than it was. But I like that. It is a stone cold beautiful dark brown now. Before, it was a lighter brown. The darker brown looks way better. It's like I've got a new jacket. My only problem is that 16 ounces wasn't enough. I used every drop and there was a spot that didn't get soaked and is the original lighter brown. Maybe I over-applied it, but I'm happy with the results and will order more to cover that spot. If you're a smaller person with a small to medium-sized frame, 16 ounces should be enough. Larger guys need to go ahead and order two bottles.

I have the great misfortune of having size 14 XXW feet and love to hunt and hike especially in the mountains out west. Due to my not only large but very wide feet finding well made (preferably in America) very comfortable and durable boots is very difficult. So difficult that when I find a pair of boots that meets all my requirements I usually buy a minimum of two pair. Such was the case when I came across a pair of all leather water proof insulated boots made by Danner some 19 years ago. I use them strictly only when hunting or hiking and do my best to maintain them in top shape. ' Even though I took excellent care of my boots after 19 years of spring turkey, deer and elk hunting and back packing the leather was showing it's age. I had used other leather treatment products but none ever impressed me all that much. After the 2019 deer and 2020 spring turkey season my boots took a very hard beating becoming entirely encapsulated in mud. After using Fribing's saddle soap to cleaning them 100% free of all dirt and dried mud and now the leather was now absolutely clean as I could get them it was looking it's age, and the rich dark leather looked very dry and looked like it was wearing out. Went on line to find as good a leather treatment as I could. After much looking Obenauf's leather oil and Leather Preservative kept on coming up as the best, so I gave it a try. Let me say the results were nothing short of utterly amazing. I applied the oil as directed with the supplied applicator and put them on my bench in my basement to dry. Checked back three days later and the leather looked wonderful like it had been given a second chance on life, I will stop short of saying they looked brand new, but they definitely looked like as if they had only seen 2-3 hunting seasons not 19. They looked so good in fact if I did not know they were 19 years old I wouldn't have believed it possible for 19 year old hard used boots to look this good. granted a lot had to do with I always maintained them but they now look like they could easily give me another 10 seasons. Great product I can not recommend it strongly enough.

I also own and use the Obernauf's Heavy Duty Leather Protector and have a review up for that as well. I tend to use my Obenauf products on my leather boots/shoes and belts so I can't comment on its other uses. Many of the issues I have the the HDLP is not present in the leather oil. Basically, the HDLP is a good outdoor heavy duty leather wax. It is great for hiking or work boots since it waterproofs and protects the leather very well. The Leather oil is much better for light use such as indoor leather shoes or dress boots etc. I don't live in a wintery climate, so my concern for leather involves drying out as opposed to salt and water damage. Application: The bottle comes with a cotton ball at the end of a wire attached to the top cap. It works well except for the tendency of dripping off the edge of the cap. It applies very "wet" and oily. When you first apply it, it looks like there is an oil slick on the boot. I was originally worried that I had over applied the stuff but amazingly, the leather just absorbed the oil after 10minutes. It wasn't evaporation since I tested a drop of it on piece of plastic and it just sat there. After the oil is absorbed, I tend to just wipe off the excess and let the leather dry for a day before doing anything to it(buffing or polishing etc.). There is minimal residue after the drying time and any excess can be easily buffed off. Smell: While this product is supposedly made from beeswax and propolis, similar to the HDLP, this does not smell like honey in any way. It smells similar to lanolin which is pungent and chemical like. It stays around for a day as the leather dries and lingers for a week or so after. Overall, the smell doesn't stay around as long as the honey aroma in the HDLP so I'm willing to put up with it. Color: Similar to any leather conditioner or oil you use on your boot(except for some boot creams and coconut oil), it will darken the leather. However, it is no where as bad as the HDLP, neatsfoot or mink's oil. When you first put it on, it is 2-3shades darker(light brown will look dark brown). Once it dries after a week or so, the color will return to the original color, it perhaps a shade darker. It does make leather a bit hazy even with buffing. This can easily be remedied with a bit of shoe polish. Protection: Not sure as of yet. It does a great job a conditioning my dress boots and leather shoes but I've yet to really get my boots or shoes really wet. Obenauf's website specifically states that this is for light protection, so I'll take them up on that advise. I used this on an old leather wallet than I've been ignoring in a drawer for almost 5years and it turned hard, almost cracked leather back to soft and supple. I'm impressed. I've only used this on a few boots for 3-4months so I'll update this as time passes. One advise is to use this on new leather shoes while breaking them in. It will make the leather significantly more supple and ease in the break in process. My advise for dress boots or shoes with leather soles is to use the leather oil for the leather uppers and use the HDLP for the leather sole for extra protection. I'd say this a great product for leather dress boots and shoes. It doesn't change the color too much and offers great conditioning for the leather, keeping it moist and supple.

I've used this stuff on luggage, jackets, shoes, wallets. Between this and the Obenauf paste stuff, it covers most of my needs. Usually on veg-tanned or other high quality leather, have not tried it on bonded or coated leathers - for that sort of material you should use a Lexol or other conditioners. The oil soaks right in, and will turn a hardened ill-maintained leather into usable condition. I've tried many different products, and this oil seems to be the best at reviving leather that I thought was a goner. The darkening will fade after a week or so, but some lighter colored items may be permanently darkened. It has a dauber built into the lid, just brush it on, wait a few mins and wipe off any unabsorbed oil. Great stuff, I have gone through 2 big bottles over the years.

Amazing results. Gave life to Old leather belts

Easy to use. Soaks in quickly and thoroughly. Makes the leather supple and moisturized. It worked wonders on my neglected Sperry Top Siders, a random pair of winter Ecco brand boots, my Zamberland leather backpacking boots and a very expensive pair of Fiorentini and Bakers. Only caveat is it will reduce shine on shiny or finished shine leathers and does darken existing colours. This doesn't matter on black shoes but it is noticeable on brown leather. It isn't a dramatic change and I really like how it looks and made the browns richer.
