They must risk it all to regain their freedom ... or be sealed away forever. SOPHIA FREEMAN and her best friend, TIM CHARNAL, face being sealed away forever as punishment for Tim murdering the fountain guardian, Anaconar. But after Gordimon presents their case before the mighty arbiters, the humans are given a second chance. They must compete in the arbiters' challenging special Beyond Event and win the grand prize—jade stones, called The Gate to New Beginning—which would earn their freedom and gain the islanders' trust. Lack of information about the event fills Sophia and Tim with unbearable curiosity. Its secrets will only be revealed on each day of competition. Gathering their courage, the best friends work on strengthening their bodies, desperately hoping it will be enough to beat the other contestants. The Beyond Event involves three rounds carefully designed by the arbiters. Once each contestant enters the hologram, they are immersed in unfamiliar environments. There they encounter creatures such as flaming root monsters, hammer-throwing cave giants, and a slimy tentacled sea monster threatening to take out everything in their path. As the difficulty increases, Sophia and Tim need to use all their courage, wits, and skills. One of the most useful surprise resources provided is the memory list containing the names of all contestants who have ever participated in an event. A little magic can enable a participant to access the past of a selected former contestant to gain experience and lessons before the competition begins. However, once the contestants enter the hologram, magic is forbidden. Incredibly, Sophia and Tim make it to the final round. With everything at stake, and magic now allowed, they work together to not only conquer the obstacles, but also overcome the evil magic of Tombermon, whose dark past is finally revealed. txtroan.com Review: Can’t wait for book 3! - Upon learning that the sophomore book from the Sophia Freeman series had been released I had to buy it and immediately read it. I was not disappointed! The only problem with finding a fun series is having to wait until the next one comes out. As this book ended in a cliffhanger as well I’m sure you too will be hanging on the edge of your seat until the next one comes out. The book pretty much starts up where the last one ended. Miss sassy-pants Sophia, “the chosen one,” is still with her good friend Tim who has landed himself in hot water by (****spoiler***). As a punishment, Tim and Sophia will be sealed away forever if they do not win a special tournament. In order to reverse the curse and change the fate of the island, Tim and Sophia endeavor to do just that! We follow the two as they, the only humans in the competition, prepare to compete. Sophia is not only learning to use her magic but also still struggling to show respect to her elders and the rules. This three part competition (which I couldn’t help but compare to “The Hunger Games” at times) tests Sophia and Tim in many different ways. The two learn multiple lessons along the way while serving up an action packed adventure full of monsters, magic, and many obstacles. Definitely a must read if you enjoyed the first book. I’ll end this review with my favorite quote of the book and perhaps the most important lesson learned; “One of the most important things about being a great leader is to make the best decisions for all your followers… Do not destroy the forest to save only one tree.” Review: Cool Pre-Teen Book - You will definitely need to read the first one before you can catch on to the character development. Very adventurous book that older kids will enjoy. The art, the colors and the storyline continue on except this time around, even better. If your kids like creatures such as giants and monsters, they will be captivated in this book! Fun read.

Great read for pre-teens
T. X. Troan does a great job writing a book that pre-teens. He picks up from the first book and easily pushes the story forward. While the story is written for pre-teens, it a story that anyone can get into and enjoy. It's a good book to introduce the fantasy genre to a young reader. The only downside is that Troan doesn't provide any backstory and not much worldbuilding in this book. For that information, he is relying on you to have read the first book. Still, I have to say good job on a well-written story.

Intriguing read
A book that’s a definite page-turner for everyone. “Sophia Freeman and the Gate of Jade” is the second series written by T.X. Troan. A challenge that is set to ensure the freedom of the 2 protagonists Sophia Freeman and her best friend Tim Charnal. A challenge that is bound to test their wits, knowledge, and strength of them. No magic is allowed in the hologram and the lack of information makes it more harder for them. Read this book to understand how they faced this challenge and faced evil in the journey too.
