Great book for tweens and those revisiting their childhood
Great book. I remember reading this as a kid and being enthralled, I just recently purchased this for my young boy and I'm reading it with him. Is just as good as I remember. It's my side of the mountain meets cowboys and Indians. Highly recommended!

Skipped
I purchased this used, but the description said it wouldn’t skip. Well, the 2nd chapter wouldn’t play. I had to fast forward it. We haven’t tried any of the rest of the disks yet. We love Paulson books. And the narrator is fantastic!

WESTWARD EXPANSION FOR YOUNGER READERS
THIS SERIES OF BOOKS BY PAULSEN IS FULL OF ACTION ADVENTURE. I USED THIS SERIES WITH A RELUCTANT READING, DYSLEXIC SECOND GRADER WITH A VERY HIGH IQ. HE COULDN'T WAIT TO READ THE NEXT BOOK. BY THE TIME HE FINISHED THE SERIES, HE WAS HOOKED ON READING.PAULSEN'S BOOKS ARE GREAT RUGGED STORIES FULL OF LIFE LESSONS. HE DOES A SUPER JOB WITH GOOD, BAD AND UNUSUAL CHARACTERS. I'VE RECOMMENDED HIS BOOKS TO READERS OF ALL AGES INCLUDING ADULTS. (I WORK WITH STUDENTS FROM SECOND GRADE THRU HIGH SCHOOL)I'M A GREAT FAN OF PAULSEN'S.

Not five because Kindle
I have used this book to excite young readings for years as a fifth grade teacher. My fourth grade daughter wanted a good book to read so I purchased this book on her kindle. My reason for giving it three and not five stars is the price of kindle books!! Why would anyone get the Version of anything when it is the same price as a new book, or the fact I can purchase this book on Amazon.com for $.01 used!!!????!!???!!?? Selling it as a Kindle means publishers do not have to pay for printing, about 15% the cost of a book, and Amazon does not have to lose money shipping it to a prime member, like myself. I hope the justice department gets the publishing companies that fixed prices and hurt the free economy and this great new technology.

An Excellent Read!
Gary Paulsen is a super author especially for boys. He has a way of making words come to life. Mr. Tucket is a high-adventure book about a wagon train going out west along the Oregon Trail. Francis, a 14-year-old boy, is taken prisoner by indians. He is rescued by a one-armed mountain man named Mr. Grimes. They have quite the adventures as they become friends. I am currently reading the book to my 4th grade class. You know you have a winner when the whole class (boys and girls) groan when I stop reading it each day!

Used book seller recommended this & I'm so glad I bought it (despite it's age!)
An oldie but a goodie. My son, who doesn't go for Harry Potter kind of stuff, has really enjoyed this book. Not complicated reading with oodles of gushy feelings or fantasy. My son is 12 & I like him reading this stuff even if it is below reading level. It keeps his nose in a book, is boy-centered & keeps his reading speed up.

lovely book
Lovely book - beautifully written. Evocative language - had both my children gripped. Had to explain the 'cowboys and indians' genre to them tho but absolutely compelling. The first childrens book I have read for a long time which I enjoyed reading and didnt irritate me with slang and poor grammar.
