You will need some networking experience to understand this module and to set it up, it is not a plug-n-play item, I write the following general comments of my particular usage for other like-minded people, as this is he sort of thing I wanted to know and what could be achieved with this before purchasing. The intended use for this converter, was to remotely control and monitor my DIY solar shed project, The shed is 50m away from the house thus wifi would not work, so this converts the RS485 output of the Epever solar charge controller into an ethernet signal and that is cabled back to a network switch at the house network, The Epever control software only works with serial ports so it was necessary to have a TCP/IP to virtual com port installed on the PC which adds to the complication, but that's another story. There's good documentation downloadable from the Waveshare website for this item as it doesn't come with any. The whole set-up works great. No problems with the Waveshare RS485 to Ethernet module, it powers happily though DC swings from a 12v to 15v battery, and I am hoping to daisy-chain the RS485 shed network with other 'gadgets' which can all be remotely controlled on the same ethernet cable. The converter comes with it's own built in web page to change settings etc. As I said initially, this is for the keen DIY'er or technician as it does need some knowhow. The unit has no mounting holes so I had to get a rail for it, but these are available from Screwfix and elsewhere. Overall it is a job to set up, but works well and an was an interesting experience, the Waveshare 485/ethernet converter is well worth the money.

I used this with my Solax inverter to get data via home assistant. I installed in in a small housing that was a couple of quid from screw fix. The clever bit is getting it to work. I was lucky enough to have somebody prepared to take the time to walk me through the setup. (When the middle light turned blue, it was connected. Now that it’s done, I can get real time data (every 10 seconds) farther than the 5 minute intervals provided as standard by Solax. It does what it’s supposed to do but I can’t pretend that I know how it does it 😀

Works fantastically well for me for integrating my solar inverter with Home Assistant. I use it for triggering grid charge when my rates are cheap. You'll need to know the modbus protocol for whatever device you're trying to read/write to. Instructions linked in the product description are pretty much adequate. There's really not much to configure to convert RTU to TCP. Though I'd definitely suggest testing with software that isn't mostly in Chinese if you can't understand Chinese (e.g. qmodMaster or similar free).

For the money I wasn't expecting much, but it works fine, I used it for modbus comms from an electric meter to connect to my customers Loxone Miniserver (smart home controller)

These devices might be low cost, but they just work. Used several to interface to the Modbus port on my solar system and interfaced to Home Assistant. Ideal.

Purchased to use with my Solax X1 Hybrid G4 Solar Inverter to provide data to my Home Assistant installation. Works very well after set up which is all a bit complicated.

In meinem Fall funktioniert das Modul aber ohne jegliche Verbindungsprobleme. Fazit: Für jeden, der seinen Solax Wechselrichter oder ein ähnliches Gerät mit einem RS485-Anschluss in ein Smart-Home-System wie Home Assistant integrieren möchte, ist dieses Modul eine gute Lösung. Es arbeitet zuverlässig und bietet eine stabile Verbindung. Die Einrichtung könnte für Einsteiger etwas anspruchsvoll sein, aber für erfahrene Nutzer ist es eine einfache und effektive Möglichkeit, eine Verbindung zu schaffen.
