AEG Mystic Vale: Vale of Magic - Classic Fantasy Card Game for 14+

We are a family of gamers and we have closets of board games. This one quickly became our favorite. As my daughter says, it is a perfect nerd fest. Deck building - check. Deep strategy - check. Great art - check. Interesting theme - check. And you get to collect cards and fit them in sleeves and build new and creative combos every game. Nerd alert!

A really fun take on the "deck building" genre of games. This one is a CARD builder. Theme is a little pasted on, but you can keep it in mind as you play this really fun game. Every game plays differently as you try to build your Vale to be stronger and more effective than your opponent's.

This is the first expansion to Mystic Vale which is one of my favorite games. If you don't know what the original game is like, you'll have to check reviews of that, but the basic concept is instead of adding more cards into your deck like a traditional deck builder, you add expansions to your cards by sliding them into sleeves. As for this expansion, it's just fine, it adds a lot more variety to the game, but it doesn't really introduce anything fundamentally new to the game. It really is just a booster for the vanilla game, so if you've kinda seen all the cards in the vanilla set and want more, this is a solid expansion. However with the release of Vale of the Wild, which DOES have new mechanics, I'd say this is not essential to own, just nice if you play the game a lot (which we do).

Love the game, and the options added with this expansion are great. The "Guardian Symbols matter" strategy is one that never really came together with other expansions, but Vale of Magic adds a couple of key pieces that make it MUCH more doable than before
