WORTH EVERY DOLLAR...
WORTH EVERY DOLLAR I PAID FOR IT!! I looked long and hard all over the internet for WEEKS before I stumbled on this little gem. I had a Sun System 1,000 watt grow light that had a an older magnetic ballast from 12 years ago actually and I really had a difficult time controlling the heat in my grow room -- a DIRECT result of the combination of the heat generated by the ballast and its unchangeable wattage. There were many times that I wanted to reduce the watts, but most of all - the HEAT generated by the ballast AND the bulb. The heat generated can get up to 95 degrees or more in a very short time in smaller areas -- that could be a DISASTER in a small grow space, this in turn brings new problems that you really want to stay away from. With this new iPower digital, dimmable ballast, I have solved the most difficult part of my grow equation. I virtually ELIMINATED the heat generated by the ballast itself, you can easily touch any part of the ballast and it runs quite cool -- even on the 1,000w setting! It even has its own little cooling fan built right in, and it makes very little sound. The dimmable option is what REALLY makes this item super versatile, I have mine set up so that just before it goes out I lower the wattage to 500watts so that when my lights first kick on in the morning they are not hit with HIDs at FULL force -- your plants will LOVE this option. After a couple of hours I kick it up to 750watts and in a couple more I hit 'em with all 1,000watts -- just like in the real ideal day...then I back them down slowly in the afternoon to 500watts when they shut down with the timer. Together with the new Metal Halide I picked up from Amazon, my old system is now state of the art...MH for the vegetative growth and your HPS for the flowering cycle....reduced heat signature in your grow room, less internodal stretch and a much greater YIELD in the finished product are just a FEW of the tangible things you should see in YOUR grow setup! The new ballast plugged right into my 12 year old Sun System with NO modifications or adapters necessary. I am 110% satisfied with my purchase and would definately put this on my wish list for Xmas if you don't have one of these beauties yet. By the way, the time from ordering to receipt was only a week, also very good, and arrived in perfect condition. Very, very satisfied.

I have a bit of a learning curve with systems and these systems are fine. I actually like their bulbs a great deal
Purchased a few of these ballasts(1000s and 600s) six months ago, and iPower bulbs. They're ALL still running properly and I've had absolutely NO issues. I've run ballasts from all kinds of manufacturers(magnetic and digital) for over 17 yrs. I have a bit of a learning curve with systems and these systems are fine. I actually like their bulbs a great deal, and I've spent plenty of money on Hortilux hy-brid bulbs. Had never heard of iPower before, but won't be paying 2-3 times the price for a comparable system again.

Ballasts running hot. OR NOT.
I bought this ballast and had read a lot of reviews that were yelling FIRE. This electronic ballast is just like any other. If you run this ballast on 110v it will get hot. The cord will get hot and after time melt. You need to watch this. If you run the ballast on 220v you will find that it is almost cold even the cord. The reason for this is the amount of amps on the wire. 110v 1 wire 220v 2 wires. 220 draws half the amps down each wire rather than all down 1. It works half as hard. I do not recommend running any ballast on 110 if you do run a #10 wire and use a 25amp breaker. If you have never ran a ballast like this on 220v and seen how cool it runs you are in for a surprise. This is why I think you don't get a good response from the company because they know it is up to you to make sure the correct supply voltage and amps are available. How could they know what you have in your home? I think most say they draw 8.6 amps or so. That computer plug you are using I think is rated at 7amps or less. So on 110 you draw 8.6 amps down one wire that small and it will fail. 220 you draw 4.3 amps per wire. I am not saying they supply the correct size cord here just the facts about 110 220 and why they get so hot. Just my opinion.. No I don't work for any ballast company.

Great product at a great price.
I've had this ballast for about six months, its been working great with a 1k mh, nice and bright and always fires up. It stopped working but ipower warrenty center was prompt in letting me replace it. Other than that, this is about the cheapest 1k electronic ballast your gonna find on the market.

Worked for 4 hours.
It came on time. When I opend it up there was rattling comimg from the inside of the ballast. It was a black piece of what looked like melted plastic. It was nice and quiet. It ran for about 4 hours than mysteriously stopped working. It came with a phone number to call Ipower in case of difficulties. I left a message now waiting for a response. Ill keep this updated it finally come about 30 days after i returned it. And im sure only necause i called and asked where my replacement is. It came 3 days later. Its worked for 4 months. And now Just like the last one it wont turn on or do anything. Crap!

Best ballast yet!
Best ballast I've used to date. Good cooling system, push button reset, seemingly high quality construction. Being able to adjust the output is one of its best features. You can save time & work by, say in a 10'x20' room, you don't have to bother with changing your settup_ just begin your starts with 1 lamp at its lowest setting, then go to two as the crop expands, and eventually all three for the last stage, adjusting the output to your needs keeping your plants happy & your elec. bill as low as possible with minimal effort. This will be my first complete grow using ths system, but so far my only problem has been keeping up with the grow pace (Tying up heavy branches so they don't break off, etc) Time will tell if they last. Highly recommended!

It did what I wanted!
I have spent hundred of dollars more for another 1000 w ballast from a competitor that overheated the small room I have and cooked my plants. This one, because you can literally 'dial it back' to either 500 watts or 750 watts when necessary, works exceptionally well. Plus, it's made very well, is quite a bit lighter than others I've seen and has a nice streamlined footprint. I've had it for over a year now and have had no problems with it. Additionally, the staff at iPower are extremely responsive and easy to work with. I highly recommend this.

*UPDATED REVIEW* Good ballast, but not as durable as some of the higher end ones
Wanted to give people some updated info on these ballasts after running a half dozen of them for about a year. I stand by my original thoughts on these ballast, but I have now had two of them fail and I'm thinking that there may be long term durability issues. By way of comparison, I've never had a Phantom fail, but they are also almost twice as much, so it's up to you how you weigh that value one way or the other. In terms of how the ballasts have worked when operating, they are perfect and I really couldn't ask for more out of them. My plants have looked spectacular, and they don't seem to be contributing more to heat or bulb wear than any of the others. That being said, I don't use the dimmable settings on ballasts, in my experience it puts extra wear and tear on the ballast for something that I have NEVER seen pay off in terms of overall yield, so how they will stand up to regular dimming is something I can't speak to. I also recommend mounting these vertically (with the fan blowing upward). The ones I have mounted vertically on my control panel as opposed to letting lay flat in my second room seem to be much cooler, and I'm thinking this may be something inherent in the design. One more thought. If you are running a fully hydroponic setup and going to be dealing with potentially higher humidity levels, I'd recommend spending the extra money for a phantom. No vents or fans on the casing seems to work better for that application than ballasts designed to have air flow through them. That is just based on my rather limited hydroponics experience, but I wanted to give as much information as possible. *ORIGINAL REVIEW* I've had multiple different ballasts over the years ranging from old school magnetics to some of the newest top of the line models and these are my favorite for the price. Of course the ballast works exactly as described (though I don't tend to use dimming features), but there are a few other quick notes I'll mention. Pros: - these are thinner than any other ballast I've had. What this will mean for durability in the long run, I couldn't tell you, but as it stands it's a nice space saver on my control board. - seems cooler than my other ballasts (no clue why this would be, but it seems to be the case) - comes with the power cord you actually need to run 1000 watts. I can't tell you how many of my expensive ballasts have come with power cords that I would consider dangerous under a thousand watt load. Cons: - There really haven't been any, I did have one of these die on me, but it was promptly replaced by the seller and I have not had a problem with the new one. You have to remember though that I am running about a half dozen of these, one of them dying could just be luck of the draw, I have not had any problems with any of the others.

It works
It seems to work. Came in the mail on time, slightly damaged but only seemed to be aesthetics so I didn’t bother to return it. I accidentally burnt out my bulb the first time testing it because I didn’t realize the dimmer switch was set to 1000 watts and not 600. Don’t make the same mistake I did!
