I love this rice cooker. I've never had one, so I researched for the features I was interested in dishwasher safe! This has it.It's straightforward -- just make rice or steams vegetables. I made my first batch using the enclosed cup and the amount of water directed. I made the full amount: 3 of the cupfuls, and look at the picture -- the rice was up to the top. I added a bit of salt, and that's it. The rice didn't stick to the bottom, and the cooker shut off when the rice had finished cooking. It was delicious and, oh, so easy.I rinsed my rice first to get rid of that milky starch.Others had mentioned that the enclosed cup isn't a full (US) sized cup -- they are correct. It is a Japanese cup size.Others had mentioned using the enclosed spoon to partially cover the vent to prevent the steam from spraying all over -- which I did and will continue to do so.When it came time to clean, it was super easy to hand wash -- maybe next time I'll put it in the dishwasher, but I didn't have to this time.

I did not use the rice cooker for a few weeks after I received it but when I did use it I realized that it was not cooking the rice properly, the rice grains were left hard, un eatable. Tried a couple of times even using different kinds of rice just to make sure but no luck. I have used a rice cooker before and know exactly how to use it, it was not working properly.Since the window to return had passed I contacted customer service requesting a replacement unit, explained clearly the problem I was having. After a couple of emails and a request for the lot number my address and email, which I answered promptly, I get an email stating that the rice cooker needs to be sent back to the company so they can determine if the rice cooker is defective or not. If they find that is not defective I am responsible for the shipping and handling at the tune of $14.95.Honestly the way I was treated I don’t have trust in their ability to evaluate the item and thus incur the expense of the shipping. I paid almost $40 for this rice cooker instead of one half price because of what I thought was a good quality product, not so or at least mine was not. Customer service Rep Lilibeth with Proctor Silex was less than helpful. No I will not be printing labels and returning the item back for your own evaluation!!! This is putting all the burden on the customer. At this point I’ll take my loss, put it in the garbage where it belongs and order another one, but this time definitely a different brand.If you still choose to purchase this product make sure you check it right away as you can’t depend on their customer service for assistance in replacing a defective product.Very dissatisfied and disappointed with Proctor Silex product and customer service.
